Need to replace brake drums on 89 gt

I have seen aluminum brake drums at auto zone.

How good are they? Are aluminum drums better than steel drums?

aluminum drums kinda though me off because steel sounds better in my head.

I really want something made in the USA. If I have to have them I want them made here in the USA! I'm tired of everything made in china!

please help.

Thanks everyone

For the most part I can understand wanting to get something made here in the USA. However, I am not against everything made overseas since importing some goods from other countries does create extra jobs that might not otherwise be there, such as transportation, the need for fuel, customs, etc. I do think we import entirely too much though.

Anyhow, I wouldn't think it would matter much with the aluminum. Maybe someone else knows something I don't but the brake drums are primarily used for parking and or during reverse. They don't get a lot of abuse so I wouldn't think the aluminum would be a problem and the weight savings would be worth it.

I understand and agree with you. I also think there need to be alot more things being made here in the USA.

and I can see what you mean about the aluminum drums, with weight.

My drums are toast, If i'm on a hill an put my e-brake on it still rolls.

So you're saying just play with the adjuster inside the drum brakes, at the bottom there?

I do know i'm gonna buy all new hardware like springs and adjusters.

By the way how close are you to Carlisle, PA

I would like to start a Mustang car club in my area.

Thank you. I can't wait. My wife told me I can take him with me to next years Ford Nationals here in Carlisle, PA

That's actualy the hood that was on it when I got it, but thank you all the same. I love the ram air hoods. Mine is functional too. But it's always catching leaves lol

Just adjust them. No need for anything else. Mine did the same thing and the drivers side one was way out of adjustment and way too much drag. When I would go 10mph or less it would howl. Took me 10 minutes to adjust them properly
