1988 GT with 1990 engine?

Well sad to say my short-lived 90 LX had a tragic accident and got wrecked on the back right fender and bumper. It's drivable but totaled.

Instead of throwing everything down in frustration and loudly proclaiming I give up I've been in contact with someone who has a 1988 GT roller and would be willing to part with it for a small sum.

Before I commit to anything I'd like to ask you guys if there's anything I should be made aware of.

Both the cars are set up for 5-speed configurations but I'm thinking there might be something here I'm missing. I've read a MAF swap will be required in the 88 (meaning pulling the MAF computer from my LX and putting it into the 88).

Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance!

There is some wiring that you will need to swap over from the mass air car in order to convert the 88 to mass air....

Yeah I've read the MAF swap documents on the forum. Just wondering if there's any other differences. Will I need to swap ECU's or anything?

Would it be easier to just wire up a MAP system?

You will need to use the mass air computer

Yeah, unfortunately the 88 turned out to be kind of garbage. Had a rushed paint job, painted over everything, even the window louver and ford emblem. I left that sucker parked in his driveway. but it's good to know I have the option of going with an 88 if I happen across one in decent shape.

Well there's a guy selling a 94 GT roller near me and he only wants like a grand for it. As far as I've read the 302 in the 90-93's is the same as the 94-95 mustangs with the exception of the timing chain cover and the water pump. Might be worth investigating unless someone has a horror story to ward me away.

pretty much the same motor, but it's a smaller engine compartmenmt, i've looked at 94-95 50's and i think a fox is way easyer to work on . they are also heavyer. they do have five lug 4 wheel disk though. i'm not a big fan of the bodystyle though. i think they look ''girly'' unless theere the cobra or the later mach 1's. the old school ''box'' body fox is what i like but thats just my .02

You are correct there. The 302's in the SN95's are crammed in there. I used to own a 95 GT and it was such a tight fit you could barely fit your hand down the side to reach anything. But there are a lot more 94-95 mustangs available in my area and budget is a consideration.

I love the fox style but having a V8 mustang of any type again would be god send.

also the accessory brackets are different and the mounting for the MAF. alternator is different to the 87-93 but you can trim the old bracket and get them to fit. if you have march pulleys you can use any alt from 87-95...
