How do u remove stk radio in 89 gt


how the heck do i get the stock radio out i tried the hanger thing. i got it to work in my parents 95 bird but this thing will not come out. i stuck them in so far and pulled nothing. pushed them in farther and nothing. dang thing wont release maybe the actual tool is needed. PLEASE HELP thanks Reddevil89 (Allen)

I used the tool, came out easy. Picked one up from walmart for $10-15

If you push them in too far, you can push the tabs on the lock mechanism out to a point where the correct tool won't even release it. I've had a ford or two where someone tried the coat hangar method and went too far, and I had to take the radio out in pieces.

tried the hanger thing maybe ill try the tools and if those dont work can i take out console to get to the back of the radio. damn it i didnt want to hear bout braking the radio cause its still good. like to keep stock parts. guess never know when ull need them again.

I don't know how tight space is back there on a stock fox, but if you can get your head up by the gas pedal and look toward the back of the radio, you may be able to see what you're working with. If you can get to them, all they do is push in toward the radio. Maybe you can get a long flathead in through the back and release the clips.

If you do buy the keys, just slide them in gently until you feel them click. Then angle the keys away from the radio and pull out on it.
