Problems in a T5 swap
I have a 1983 302 and T5 in my 65. I was going to put a 94 T5 in it and not rebuild the 83 because I am building a 93 302 EFI engine. When I tried to install the 94, the flywheel cover was too big to fit between my long tube headers and they could not be bent without hitting the steering linkage. Supposedly the input shafts were interchangeable (the 93 is longer and will not work with the 83 bell housing) and I could use the 83 bell housing to save some space. Both are 10 spline and mic the same outside measurements. When I pulled them out the 83 drive gear is a 24 tooth and the 94 is a 23 tooth and the actual drive gear is close to 1/2 inch smaller. I have been told by 4 people they have made the swap. Any idea why mine is different or what am I missing here?
