Cool

Are you sure your cam timing is correct, this is the only thing I can think of at the moment.

ya, try setting it just by ear, see where it sounds the best, adjust it with it running, tap on the gas a bit and see where you get max power

He said cam timing, not ignition timing. Did you degree the cam when you installed it?

Then start with the basics. Check the plugs and see what they look like. Check your cranking compression. Check your fuel pressure. And make sure the balancer hasn't spun and your timing marks are off. Also are you sure you have the timing set to 13*BTDC. I've seen people set their timing to ATDC and not realize it and the car was a dog. If I was to guess, I would say you have something incorrect with your ignition timing if you degreed the cam.

You set the timing with the car running and a timing light. When you stab the distributor, all you're doing is making sure you're on the correct tooth for where you have your number 1 cylinder on the cap. The initial timing adjustment is done after that. Also you have to remove the SPOUT connector before you set the timing.

Do you have gears in it? What fuel pump size? I did the same swap but haven't done gears in it yet and it's a dog in any gear after second. My base timing is set at 15 with the spout out it made a huge difference and a tune will help alot.

Do you still have the stock balancer ? The reason i ask is that it may have spun, meaning that you dont have the accurate reading of your real timming

Now should next step be a dyno tune? Because guys have been telling me these motors don't benefit much from one is that true?

IMHO any car can benefit from being tuned but with the changes to your setup you will want to. As it sits right now I guarantee you are running rich and will have very poor fuel economy. Also with the timing advanced that much you might want to consider running higher quality fuel ie 91-93 octane to help prevent the chances of detonation. But the tuner will get you optimal performance. Do you NEED one no but it would benefit you as far as gas mileage and the most power for your setup.
