Cutting out?
I just bought this car a month ago and its great but the past couple days it has been running kinda weird. About the days ago I went to start my car up in the morning for the first time of the day and it took a little longer to fire up, just a couple more seconds. When it fired up it kept almost dying and then maybe 30 seconds later it started idling normal. It did this yesterday aswell but not as bad. And today it didnt do it at all, fired right up. Tonight I was crusing around and i downshifted to 3rd to slow down a little because i was coming to a red light which was about to turn green I was just partially accelerating and it sounded like my engine was cutting out. I tried to make it happen again to see if I wasnt crazy and it did it again. But I noticed it only cuts out when im under 2k rpms barely pushing the gas pedal down. It never does it otherwise. Any ideas why all this is happening? About a week before this started happening I put new autolite 25 plugs in, cleaned the MAF, changed the fuel filter, and cleaned the airfilter. And I have only drove the car maybe twice before doing all this because I had to change out the rear upper/lower control arms so i dont really know how it ran before the tune up. I'm gonna clean the MAF again tomorrow and clean the IAC and see if that helps. Any ideas besides cleaning the MAF and IAC??? The only thing I can think of is timing or fuel pressure and i'm hoping its not the fuel pump going out.. Other than the cutting out on partial throttle under 2k rpms the car runs fantastic so i really just dont know. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys
Oh yeah, my car is a 91 LX with an F303 cam and CAI. Everything else is stock. |

Oh yeah I forgot about that. I'll do that sometime today. I cleaned the maf again and the iac last night though. The iac was SOOOOO full of carbon. I used a whole can of carb cleaner and I probably could've used more lol. I let the car sit overnight and haven't started it yet. I'll let u guys know how it runs with the clean iac.

Well I drove the car today. It still wanted to die when I first started it though.. but it idles better and seems to drive a hell of a lot better than it did before I cleaned the IAC. I got another can of carb cleaner so I can clean up the IAC some more. One can was not enough lol. I'm also gonna clean the throttle body a little and I got a new PCV valve just because. Gonna check codes later.
