85 mustang lx 5.0 is having problems!
I just bought a sweet 85 lx 5.0 and it's not running as good as it should, now here is the deal it has sat for 2 yrs, so I changed plugs, oil, and thermistat, took the shorty headers, and cat off and installed BBK long tubes with 2.5 inch exaust with flowmasters. The car does not seem to have much power and smokes going down hills without giving it gas. I have not put the oxygen sensor back in yet, would this make it smoke? It does have the throttle body type carb. Can someone also tell me the fireing order, and what the timing should be set at? Thanks for any help.

1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 i do believe. And the timing all just depends on your set up

I believe the stock 5.0 figure is 10*BTDC, with the SPOUT connector disconnected. Don't forget to reconnect it when you're done.

Is it still the same gas that came with your car?

It was the same gas as of this morning, had 3/4 tank when I got it and finally ran it out and put 93 oct in it. Got the oxygen sensor in and is still smoking when going down a hill and then excellerating out? I did buy some lucas oil treatment to help seal anything inside, but can't tell if it fuel overload?

I'm still trying to figure this thing out! The car now has 17x9's or 10's cobra look alikes and came factory with 14", what gear should I put in it to get power back? 327 factory gear, AOD trans and 17 inch wheels. It has alot of pull if easing into the throttle but if you floor board it, bogs and feels like it misses? Thanks for any imput.

i didnt know that 85 had an O2 sensor. I had an 85 gt a long time ago but i never worked on it. I know that the 85 had a computer in the passenger side kick panel, but the car would still run with the computer pulled out
