over heating?

my brother has a 94 gt with the trickflow streetheat kit, cold air intake, headers, excuast, and x-pipe. he has a 160-165 t-stat, replaced the radiator and has an auotmeter temp gauge. had a coolant leak from the lower intake and over heated it and blow a head gasket. he had that fix. but, it still over heats. any thoughts????

check for flow, squeeze the hoses when hot, check level of coolant, check for abnormal deposits in radiator, stuck thermastat or maybe installed backwards, check fan operation

Does it run rough, or the coolant need to be filled all the time? Did he ever put stop leak in it? It does sound like the thermostat is stuck open. At lower speeds the coolant is going thru the rad slow enough to cool it. At higher speeds the coolant is moving too fast to cool. I would flush my rad and block and get a new thermostat. If you don't have flow thru either one you will find out when you do the flushes.

we have replaced the t-stat three times cause the work that has been done and the radiator is about 1.5 years old. when they replaced the head gaskets shouldnt that have cleared out some of the engine block?

If they drained the coolant and there was none in the head then I would assume it drained with no blockage, but could just be a partial blockage. I give. It cools at idle but not at driving speed. Are you just going by the gage or can you tell, ie. boiling water or something, that it is really running hot? Back to the other questions, does it run rough or lose water? That could mean a cracked head from overheating. Anyways good luck I hope you figure it out. its time to hit the sack.

it flows good and it doesnt leak or run rough. it gets as high as 220 before we shut it off. it was test at the t-stat w/a tool and would still run hot. no leak from the heads they were pressure tested

what temp does the fan turn on at a stoplight? is the right mix of coolant/water in there? flush it out and run straight distilled water if its summer, see what happens and then use coolant system cleaner in the can to clean all water jackets and the radiator therre is prolly a partial blockage somewhere, and I would remove the thermastat and run without one and see.
