finding "1" on distributor cap

Hey guys I own a 2000 gt and am usually over in that section but i also have some mud truck toys and one has a 460 so i thought this might be the place to jump to for that. I got the motor without plug wires... no big deal right? well the dist cap doesnt have a "1" anywhere on it. so my question is what prong is number one and can anyone confirm that the firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 in a counter clockwise order? thanks.

That's the correct order for a 460. Number 1 on the cap is wherever you want it to be. Doesn't matter where you start, as long as you get the order correct.

NP. You just have to make sure that 1 is at where the rotor is pointing when the number 1 cylinder is at TDC on it's compression stroke. I'm sure you know this, but just in case.
