crank and rod

i have a man-o-war 302 block with 8.2 deck height, it seems this block uses the 351 crank (2.749 journals) which is min. 3.5 stroke, my plan was to go 363 - 3.4 stroke, 5.4 rod, 4.125 piston. since i have to use a 351 crank with the 3.5 stroke, will that put me above the 8.2 deck, if so can i use a shorter rod on this crank

The block you have is a very strange set up. Not to upset you but from what I seen they were like a mistake and there are no more of them gone to be made. Yes they have a 3.5 stroke kit for the 8.2 block but it did not catch on that much due to ring lands being very problem prone but it used a 5.4 rod just like the 347 kits. But there is no telling if it would clear the counter weights unless you have talked with someone that has done it. Problem with running a 351 crank you are gone to run into the rod journals being to be for the 5.4 rod. but they do make a 3.5 stroke crank with the 2.1 rod journals that are common BUT a friend of mine just called about the Eagle crank and it would only work with a 6.00 rod with out gone and cutting the counter weights down. That leaves very few options and a custom crank looks to be in the works for you I do think or cutting down a Eagle or Scat unless they are making one now for your set up. I have seen them already out there for people that also got this block on a deal. So I know the crank grinders are making them but the cost is up there but in the end you would have a super nice darn near bullet proof set up that would take just about any thing you could throw at it. Look around over on like Yellow Bullet that is a much more hardcore race site and much more informed people then me that could help you out also and maybe tell you away around your problem. other then the custom crankshaft or a cut down one. good luck with it.
