Thoughts on refurb A9L

Autozone and a few other big chains have a reman ECU for about $85 with a 1 year warranty. It is a Cardone 78-4352 which the Ford Fuel injection site and many others claim is a direct replacement for an A9L. I see used and remans on ebay for $150+ and some used ones on Corral for $125+. Maybe it is just market forces but I find it odd that a reman with a warranty is cheaper from a chain store than the used market. Am I missing something here?

At times with KOEO, my fuel pump keeps running or does not run at all when I go to KOEO and it's not a faulty relay (the trigger voltage to the relay is stuck high or never goes high and the relay does what it is being told to do). I've also heard random relays and/or injectors clicking in the engine compartment as well. I could swap with my other Fox to test but I am pretty confident it is the ECU but I'll read codes and run a self test before I buy one.

try and find one from a 5.0 ford truck if you can, they have more aggressive time tables meaning sharper programming...

only relay that i know is openly exposed in the engine bay is the wide open throttle one located on the inside of the passenger shock tower.

a few relays for the lights as well but those are a bit hidden.

do you know anyone who could test your ECU in their fox and see if they get the same issue?

why not send yours for repair? some places in the states offer a discount for exchange in purchase of recon units...

Where are you getting this... no WOT relay anywhere on the car, never even heard of that. What truck computer are you talking about. Have anything to back that claim up?

Sorry nolife, no tech to add to your post whatsoever. I would think the guys at EECTuning.org may be able to give you some insight on that though.

fox fuel pump, vert top and WOT relays are the same, as i already said they are in most fox cars up to 89. from 90 onward they changed the locations to around the drivers side near the firewall i think... i was just identifying what the clicking sound may be so he knows what it is...

Its an E9AF computer used mostly in ford trucks LRS sell them as they are better than the normal stock upgrades... E9AF 14A624 AA (GTE)
its a generic commputer used in most 4.9 and 5.0 2wd cars or some 4wd such as explorers, F350's, F150's etc...

Next time you reply to a message watch the tone you type in...

Ah, my mistake, you must be referring to the A/C relay that kills the A/C at WOT, no?

I've still never heard of an E9AF having more aggressive spark tables than an A9x. E9AF means generic ford. Just because LRS markets them as such doesn't automatically mean that's true.

My tone comes from the mass mis-information I've seen in your threads such as backpressure is good and telling guys stock pushrods will be fine when you change rockers, and I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting. Lol, internet tough guy.

his engine was stock so his pushrods should be fine... obviously when you take them out you will examine them for wear and tear... if he said he could hear grinding and could see direct issues with them then its obvious he should change them hence why i said to crank the engine with his hand and watch as they go up and down...

if you read the threads about back pressure i never said it was all good for all engines except it depends on what you want to get out of your car... learn to read and carry information if your going to blast someone for trying to post a reply...

one thing i have learnt with cars is never stick to 1 ideal of modding as there will always be many other opinions and ideas on how a motor works or performs... dont talk to me if you cant keep an open mind and engage in a proper conversation...

i have never claimed to know everything about these cars im still learning myself... if i know something i will try to share my point of view...

The additional clicking I've also heard very well could have been the injectors. The car was not running at the time, just sitting in KOEO.

You could try the wiggle test to make sure you don't have anything loose.

I'm sure you've heard of it or know the procedure but if not http://sbftech.com/index.php?action=...ch=29158;image

Finally got around to fixing this. Swapped in the cardone reman A9L. At least 8 month old gas and car not started since September and it fired right up. Hopefully that really is the fix.

Buddy bought one with no issues. And as far as prices being high for the A9L... well that's just cuz that's because many people and magazines consider that the Holy Grail (sp?) of computers, so that's why they sell so high used.
