MSD Distributor and stock cam question
Hey guys, have a question about the distributor gear that came with the distributor. It has a steel gear on it and it recommends that the steel gear should only be used with a roller tappet cam. The car I have is a 1988 Mustang GT. I just want to make sure that the cam it came with (stock) is the same cam it recommends using or will I have to change the gear on the distributor? I've never heard of a roller tappet, only a hydraulic roller... same thing just different wording?

Steel gear is what you want for a hydraulic roller cam (street use) which is what you have. Even though it's recommended not to use a bronze gear on the street, I use one on my billet roller and haven't noticed any wear yet in the few thousand miles I've put on the engine.
