Issues with a Mustang I am interested in
Hello everyone!
This is my first post, I am a regular on the Crown Victoria forum though! My father and I have been looking for a project and found what we though was a really nice 1990 Mustang GT Convertable with a 5 speed. Here are the pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The problem? It has a salvaged title. The owner was unaware of the title issue (its a clean title in MA for some reason) and had never seen the carfax before. I can see the gaping where the hood and headlight meet is off on the passenger side, a sign of a previous accident...The car is just so clean it amazes me and its the only reason I am still considering it! The owner says all the body panels are still original as they still have the little VIN tags from the factory and there is no sign of welding or patching. He says the paint appears original as well. Here is the carfax: The car looks really good but a salvaged title makes me think run fast and don't look back. If I could get it for cheap ($2000?) Would this be ok assuming it runs and drives well and tracks straight? Let me know what you guys think! Thanks in advance, Mark Last edited by crownvic97; October 3rd, 2011 at 01:26 AM. |

There are numerous reasons for a salvaged title, fire, water damage etc.

IMO, if you insurance co. has no problem insuring it, and it appears to run/drive and be somewhat pretty solid, id go for it. if it were a new edge or something, id think twice before buying salvage, but, with it being over 20 yrs old, alot of mustangs are going to be fixed up and repaired and patched and zip tied and so on, salvage or not. if its a decent price and is going to be a project anyways, i say go for it...but like i said, id talk to my insurance co. first

Could have been a flood car, also could have been through a storm/hurricane and lost the top, glass, partial interior and at the time the cost to replace was over XX% usually like 60-75% of the value of the car and so insurance considered it a total loss, I too am suprised that all the panels are original, if it runs and drives decent and all the electrical is good then I would go for it if the price is right, but definately check the electrical, if one window doesn't roll down, or the stereo doesn't work, no big deal, but if windows and locks don't work and stereo or gauges or something else I would be weary cause electrical can be a pain in the ass....good luck

There doesn't seem like any damage and I think the only issue is one of the windows does not roll up. Itis hard to find a car that clean underneath in MA, that is the only reason I am still semi interested in this car. Anyone else? |

A stolen car also qualifies for a salvaged title, IMO a salvaged title isn't a deal breaker, if you like it and it looks as good in person as the pics than go for it!

mine was salvage and looks and runs great. like he said, most are ziptied, jb welded and backyard rigged anyways, they wil be classics soon no matter what condition. even if it is bad a new motor, trans, rear end isnt much and suspension to make it go
