1988 mustang gt problem's
i recently bought a 88 gt with 91k miles original been sitting in a garage for six year's i towed the car home changed the oil fuel all filter's etc did full msd tune up cap rotor wires with stock replacement plug's car ran good for a couple day's passed emission's and now it will start and run decent when it's cold but after about a mile of driving it it start's to sputter and shake it can't even move it's own weight if in neutral if i rev the motor when warmed up it won't go past about 3000 rpm and run's really bad and idea's would be great i don't wanna take the car to a shop to figure it out im pretty mechanically inclined but i still don't know what the problem is for the life of me and info would be great thank you

firing order
you should check out the firing order on the distributer cap, if its the 5.0 HO then the cap should be 13726548 going counter clockwise, and its just the basic 5.0 engine then it should be 15426378 counter clock wise as well, the reason why i think its this, is because i have the HO and i thought my cousin did too so when i saw that it wasnt the same as mine i changed it to mine which is the 13726548 and it sputtered like no other, so i was like wtf you know, whats going on with this? i looked it up, put it back to 15426378, and it ran like a champ again. idk thats just a suggestion man

i checked the firing order it was right i retimed the motor it was really close but now it's right on the money now it run's better and start's easier i checked the compression in all cylinder's and it was at between 110 and 120 on all cylinder's changed fuel filter again drained all fuel and refilled the tank just to make shure it wasn't bad gas changed checked the gap on the plug's etc it run's great for about a mile or so then it fall's on it's ass like before i have no clue what it could be because when it start's acting up if you shut it off it won't restart at all for about an hour or so not even with starting fluid and i have checked the pressure at the schrader valve it' got great constant pressure im stumped on what is wrong with it

When it won't fire is it getting spark? If so what color is the spark, bluish or more yellowish? What's the compression like when it wont fire? and like ^ said, codes.

blue spark of the number one cylinder wire when it won't start and not throwing codes today i messed with it it refused to start for about 45 second's then when it finally did it ran poorly and died i got ti restarted and it blew alot of smoke and smelled like gas really bad for about 30 second's i had to get out of the car it was that strong untill it cleared up i drove it around for maybe 30 min then it started acting up agian the cat's are not glowing either it spark's while cranking and it run's a consistand 38 pounds of fuel pressure until you hit the throttle then goes to 43 pound's i am stumped on this i read about it maybe could be a ecm heating up and shorting out but not throwing a light i also replaced my o2 sensor's yesterday

Even though the cats aren't glowing they could still be clogged. I would pull the mid-pipe off and see if the car runs any better.

update im tired of this car it is for sale i don't know what is wrong with it i have changed the maf sensor and computer and still no difference tired of it 3000 obo or trade for a chevy camaro or a ford with a chevy engine

problem solved replaced the used ecm from the junkyard with a new one from autozone run's pretty good now im getting weak spark but run's decent spark is kinda yellow orange color idk what causes this
