noob-alicious

Good day gents. I'm new to the forums, been checking on here for a while and already found some good info. Because of said info I have narrowed my selection down a bit. I want a 5.0 fox, has to be 89 and up (MAF and not SD) and I love rowing through the gears so its gotta be a 5speed. I found one on craigslist... not my first choice for car searching but eh I'll take what I can get. The car is an 89 5.0LX, GT40 heads, F303 cam, 5 speed, and a magnaflow exhaust. I want to modify things, probably obvious to those of you who know why I'm going MAF year cars and not SD cars. The guy wants 4500 for it.

I'm just looking for a base to start some mods on like a blower or maybe turbo(s). Right now I have a 2010 Cobalt SS turbo as my daily driver. It's fully bolted and on ethanol so I have experience with cars, I have had about 10 cars in the last 10 years, I like to modify things then move onto another one when I'm done. I've owned mostly chevys up until now (since they sold out to the government I will never own another bowtie). I guess I just want to get everyone's opinion to see if I'm on the right track with my current favored choice.

Because you're in cali I would extend your search to 88's too. The 88 models had MAF but it was only in california, so the likelyhood of you finding an 88 MAF car is a lot better than any other state.

Yea, I read that as well. For some reason, many of the 88s that I have found are still SD equipped, guess its because of the rush of people moving here from out of state in the 90s. Lots of cars from all over the place. There are quite a few around. If I find an 88 with the MAF setup for the right price I will jump on it. I'm not in a huge rush I just want to make sure I am getting something that hasn't been bondo-ed together after rear-ending a semi-truck lol. I learned my lesson about running into a purchase too quickly with an old 55 chevy so I'm taking my time. I talked to the guy about that craigslist ad. Going to see it next week possibly when he is available. I want to see the interior on it.

On a side note, do you guys have any recommendations or guidance on the head/cam combo he is running? I am still researching things and from what I read on here and other forums, that head/cam combo is liked by 50% and not liked by 50% of the people. It's a GT40 head with F303 cam. And if I read correctly so far they are ford racing products (if I'm not mistaken), so I'm wondering why some people don't like them I guess.

It's a damn nice looking ride but who knows how it runs or what the interior is like.
