COMPRESSION FOR TURBO MOTOR?

i'm getting a 363 dart built right now for my stang. i'm using 66mm single turbo for now. the heads i'm using are afr's 205's. with those heads the compression will stand at about 9:1. in future i'm planning to put another 66mm.. make it twin. is that a good compression for a turbo setup?? i'll be using the car on the street as well.

I'm gonna go with 8.5:1 if I can ever scrounge up the money to build me a motor. The lower the compression, the more boost you can run. You can probably run that ratio okay but won't be able to run as much boost as a motor with 8.5:1 or lower. Tuning always plays a good role in that as well having an intercooler though.

9:1 is fine plus since he will be running twins soon he will have plenty of boost without running 18+ psi. With twins 12-14lbs will rip just fine..

Yeah, I was just pointing out that he'd be able to run "more" boost with a lower compression motor. But yeah, that should be fine depending on the tune.

I would love to see some video of that at the track when you are done! That should move quite nicely as long as its tuned right like 8A_honda said.

How did that taste by the way :wink

i orderd the motor this past monday.because of the heads i'm getting it will keep it at a 9:1... i was told that should be good enough for a turbo and at least 20 lbs of boost plus its good to drive around on the street and be able to use pump gas. oh by the way i posted a topic a while back about a 393 dart with a procharger f1-r well we finally got to run the car and it ran a best time so far 10:20. we blew the tranny twice already.

9.1 is great for a turbo, if you go too low, you have to over boost to get the gains back from the lost compression. 9.1 with a motor built right will live a long time and make great number

I have always been told that turbos like alittle more compression thena supercharger...Most of the people I know run 9:1 or 9.5:1 with their turbo set-ups...

My TT V8 has a 9:1 comp. but this makes it better because you would be able to up the fuel and less of a pain to tune
