The range you want for a pushrod checker is going to be in the low 6" range. The one I have for 302 blocks goes from 5.8 to 6.8. Stock is like 6.25 or 6.272 or something like that so you won't deviate from that much.

comp cams sells these jegs summit etc. the last three engines i did all ended up with comp cams 6.300 pushrods, when using your checker make sure you are using the spring your going to use. light springs lie becuase they dont deflect the valve train at all. secondly i would take an old lifter and weld the push rod cup too it so its like a solid. and if your using stock rockers dont expect to have the same lift as the cam card because they are'nt a true 1.6 ratio. you'll probably be .010-.025 short on max lift.

If you're using your normal valve spring just make sure to do what osa6637 mentioned and use solid lifter for checking. Some lifters you can take the retainer off, pull the cup, flip the plunger around and then put the cup and retainer back in and it will be a solid lifter. Some you can't do that with though because of the design.

I'm fairly certain that the ford ones you can do like I mentioned and flip the plunger. I seem to remember that the Ford racing ones was one that I've flipped before but I can't say that 100% .I haven't done it in a while and I can't remember off the top of my head which ones you can and which ones you can't. Only way to tell is pull it apart. It will be very obvious if you can flip it or not.

Yep, that'll work too. Just make sure it's the same height from cup to tip as your hydraulic.

Just take a stock hydro roller lifter and pull the guts out, flip the plunger over & put it back togather. The spring clip is a little tight, but will go back togather. I've been using the same set for years!
