17x9 wheels on a fox body??

I am considering putting a set of chrome cobra 17x9 wheels on my 87 gt. I was told by some people that i will have rubbing issues in the front with this size wheel and them some people say it will be fine. Just curious how many of you guys are running this size wheel on the front? The set im looking at comes with 255 40 r17 tires

With the 17x9 you prob will rub. I have 17x8 all the way around with 245-45-17 on front and 275-40-17 out back. I have no rubbing issues. If you have coilovers you will rub with the 17x9. My 17x8's are as close as it comes to rubbing with my coilover setup

i have 17x9 and they only rub if you do a full lock left or right and it rubs on the strut in the front...i put 1/4 inch spacers (i know its blasphemey) and they still rub a little at the full locks....ahh well...they look good....

Oh yeah if you are gonna run that wide of a tire out back you are gonna have to remove the quad shocks.. Make sure you have aftermarket arms on the rear axle..

i dunno....i think you gotta worry about the backspacing as well because its my actual rim and even the wheel weight on the inside that rub the strut on full lock left and right not the tire....

I have 03/04 Cobra wheels that are 17x9's all the way around. It's lowered with Sportline springs. On the front, I rolled the fenders although I doubt it really needed it but better safe than sorry. I also took out the plastic under the fender cause when I hit the brakes the tires would rub and it sounded like a truck with mud tires. The only problem I have up front now is just rubbing on the control arm at full lock but to be on the safe side I had the stick on wheel weights put on cause I didn't care to have them pulled off or jack up my wheels. I just keep in mind that I can't turn real sharp. I have 245/45R17's up front.

In the back, I still have my quads. I rolled the fenders in the back and running 275/40R17's in the back. No issues there...after rolling the fenders. I did have to pull the emergency brake cable in though cause it was against the tire since they're so wide.

17 x 9's with 245's in the front will NOT rub if you buy 2 $10 Steering rack limiters from Steeda.

Is this what you're talking about? I didn't see anything else that'd be what you're describing.

No - They're called steering limiters, and it's $8.40 for a pair. They've removed them from their website, but if you call and ask, they can get them for you. They clip on under the rack and pinion boot, and limit it's movement.

So, get 17 x 8s for the front if you can...

I put 17 x 8 black ice ROH RTs on the front with no rubbing issues at all.
18 x 9s in the back, with 275 tires, also no rubbing.

Everyone that i know that ever put 17 x 9s on the front has had some issue.

Also, maybe a few people still don't realize this, but the fenders in the 87-89 cars are different from the 91-93 cars. The 91-93 fenders have a slightly expanded wheel well.

I don't think my wheels come in a 17x8. Oh well, what about the fenders on a 90? Cause that's a project I have going right now. Is it a very noticable difference?
