E-150(Van) 5.0.

So, today my dad and I went on the hunt in town to find someone who had a 302. We found a couple of people, but they were lost hopes as they had already sold their block for scrap. Luckily, we came by one of my dads friends who so happened to have a 1996 ford e-150 with a 5.0 in it. I was wondering, though; this is compatible, right? Swap upper/lower intakes, plug & play, right? or is there more to it?? I just want to know a little more, even though we already have the motor pulled from the van, which was a VERY interesting procedure of shade-tree mechanic to the max.

You will probably have to swap over the front timing cover & water pump also, along with the oil pan & pickup. The standard 5.0's had the old 302 firing order, so you're gona want to put your HO cam in it also, for the EFI to work properly. If you're going that far you might as well put all new gaskets & seals in along with a new oil pump & timing chain. And hope its a good motor when your done!

Oh, shit. I will let my dad know this before he gets any farther. we actually got the motor out of the van and onto a stand today, and had everything but the mounting brackets and accessories put on. Also took the motor out of the stang, so made hella progress. I ended up paying 100$ for the motor since my dad traded a bunch of scrap around to the other guy(a chevy person in need of chevy parts), so we got a very nice looking e-150 96 without a motor just sitting here now, lol. also, is there any way we could use that epic ass intake the van had? it looksl ike it had 2x more port volume than what the mustangs intake had. BTW; we figured out that the piston had gone when the water got in the motor. we found pieces of it in the oil pain. The motor does have a cam, though; unsure of what it is. the heads have a freeze plug showing that they had a warranty, and have stronger springs than what the stock ones have with markings on them. is there any way we could get the heads put on the other motor as well as the cam? thanks for your input horsepower. you've responded to all of my "how to" threads, and "damn" threads. appreciated and repped.

I would put your heads & cam on the van motor then. It would be alot easier than swapping springs alone. Good luck!

I would verify the firing order of that cam that's in the engine now by rotating the engine by hand and watching the rockers. I think those vans were batch fire so it's entirely possible they swapped the cam and plug wiring, but it's a lot easier to double check and, if needed, swap cams while the engine is on the stand.

Yessir, for sure. I called my dad last night and let him know what you guys had said. He said he would make sure he did switch heads and the cam before he put everything back together. Thanks for the input!!!
