Smokin!! Need help
So my 94 mustang gt has been smoking and burning oil like crazy (about a quart a week). I know its something to do with the pistons and valves and stuff like that. But I was just wondering if I stroke it to a 347 would that fix the problem?
ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED. THANKS 94 5.0 |

First you need to source the issue. If it's in your valve guides then rebuilding the bottom end won't do a thing for you. Do a compression check dry and then wet and then post up your results.

Whats the difference? I have done a Dry compression test and they were all around 125 (each within 5 pounds difference)

You put a little oil in each cylinder and try the test again. If the reading goes up considerably (150-160 or so) then your rings are shot. If it stays right at 125 then it's worn valve guides most likely. You can also do a leakdown to pinpoint where you're oil is coming into the cylinder from.
Also make sure you put oil in and test each cylinder individually. Not sure if I made is sound like you put oil in all the cylinders at once and then try the test, just pour oil in and test one by one so the oil doesn't have a chance to seep past the rings before the test. |

Unless you've got plans to make decent power, stock replacement stuff should be just fine. I wouldn't go ordering rings yet though. If the wet test tells you the bottom end is the culprit then you need to pull the heads and check the condition of the cylinder walls first.
