302 block help
okay i have been trying to find out which mustang forum i liked before i went signing up for things and this looked to be the best choice.
now for my question Who makes a aftermarket 302 block that will hold for boost apps. i was looking on D.S.S. at their selection, but knew that there had to be someone else who could open my eyes on this topic. last 302 went down for the count so i figure i should try and get a non stock block this time round thank you for your time and your help |

Dss does not have an after market block, it's just a stock block that they have machined. Ford has a boss block and dart has a block both a 4 bolt main caps, thicker walled and can Hold a lot of up. I have the dart block. But both have a big price tag of around 1700 dollars. But it's well worth it if you think about the savings should the stock block ever brake and destroy all the internal parts plus cost of labor. Even if you don't produce enough power to justify have that sort of block......... It piece of mind and leaves you a lot of room to grow. It sucks to buy the same parts twice

okay yeah that makes sense. so jegs or summit something like that would be fine for finding those blocks. i was not sure if those where better then stock block and didn't wanna order it and it still not hold. is there any other companies that would have after market block?

This stupid I phone would not let me' edit my post. What I was saying is the boss and dart blocks will hold a lot of horse power or boost. World products also makes an after market block called "man o war" but with that block you need a 351 distributor , oil. Pan rear main seal . I think, if I'm remembering right. Just go to each one of there web pages and youll see all the details and specs

Summit, jets, e bay, mustang mags Ect.... All good places to find these blocks. Prices will vary by 100-200 dollars depending on the dealer. But take into account that most of these blocks need final machining before you slap your internals in them. So factor that cost into the block. So a good guess would be 2000 dollars for it to be ready to use. If you shop smart and have people who can lend there services for cheap you should be able to lower the cost a little. But regardless it's worth it in my opinion if you have the cash

so would you say that the ford racing block would give before the dart would? is it really worth the extra 200 for the dart?

Yeah. If I were buying, I'd spend the $200 on the Dart, especially if I were going to boost it. They're the bad boys.

The new Boss block will handle 1000+ HP with ease, especially if you get rid of the cheesy grade 8 main bolts, and get some ARP studs, like I did!
(AD Performance is a good place to get blocks)

So they say, but there are tons of Dart blocks that have been doing it a long time, and they are tried and true.

As long as you keep the stroke down on the Boss 302 block you'll be fine. I wouldn't bother with it though because of the short cylinder wall issue. The extra for an SHP is well worth it IMO.

I know it sounds silly, but Dart only rates the SHP block to 600hp! and is $1699. The Sportsman are like $2200 and the iron Eagle is around $2700!
The only reason I went with the BOSS is because I'm running a 3.25 Stroke and I ended up only paying $1100 for it!

Yea that rating on the SHP is pretty funny. Just to cover their ass. I've got one and it's a lot beefier than a 351 block in every way. Seen lots of guys go well over 1000 hp with them. Woody says 1500 is "safe" if I remember right.

so it looks like i should just grab that "Dart 31364175" SHP because i couldn't see my self ever wanting anything past 800rwhp, that would not be a starting point haha for sure. then its nice to know i would have room to grow and or for initial safety of knowing it wont crap out on me.

Main girdles do nothing for block strength.
