Detonation is when the mixture pre ignites in the combustion chamber. There are a few things that will cause it, but in the sense that we are talking about, we will just say it's due to excessive timing. if your timingnis advanced too much, the plug will fire too early, and cause detonation (pinging, clatter, ect). It is very harmful to rings, bearing, pistons, pretty much everything.

Raising the timing will increase the idle. In a very basic sense, you want to run as much timing as possible, without detonation. More timing makes the engine much happier, aside from detonation. Plugs will live longer, idle is better, and cleaner, ect..... And it will make more power. With said, setting it on then safe side is always best. It's not a racecar.

Your car should where it like to idle. In the last two videos, mine is idling a touch over 1000 RPMs.

do a base idle reset on it to be sure. use the green wire coming from the TPS check the voltage KOEO position should be sitting .95-1.0 .98 is ideal and should go up as throttle is opened up. at WOT should sit around 4v.

reset your timing completely check TDC, the position of the magnetic prongs for the fuel injectors, and of course check your timing and make sure the jumper is out when checking it and then back in when done.

pull yout IAC out and clean it very good.

run some seafoam through the intake while the car is running.

last of all adjust your idle to around 800

is the cam installed at *4 advanced? Check into a stall converter and swap the ecm with one from a manual car.
