Coolant Fan woes...

After giving up on the problem and trying to ghetto rig my fan only to burn up a ton of relays, it's time to ask the experts

What I know:

*Problem started when I blew a hose from the water pump.
Changed the CCRM, no change.
Tested the Ohms on the temp sending units, all normal
The fan definitely works, I hooked it into the battery. But it does not turn on when I know the engine is getting too hot.

No matter how hot the engine gets, the temperature gauge only moves past the 1st dash, but it does move.

So tired of driving around like a grandma and turning the engine off at every stop light. I'm hungry, please feed me

if you want the fan to come on all the time for now just run a ground to the wire with the green with purple strip on the ccrm this will put the cooling fan on high all the time

well by the sound of it, the water hose had nothing to do with the fan not working.. the hose blowing was proly caused by the fan not working. sounds like the tempeture switch went out. if it cant be replaced wire in an aftermarket one in. they sell them at your local autoparts stores for like 35.00

Where is the temp switch located?

not sure on your car its gotta be on or in the radiator. or it uses the water temp sensor. im not sure. but if it kicks on and off it uses something. pull your fan off and see if there is something inside that looks like a relay. find where the fan gets its power from is it a switch of some kind (a small box) or does it come stright from the wire harness?

I will definitely look for the switch. What about the thermostat? Could that have something to do with the fan not kicking in?

i suppose it could uausally the engine would overheat before the hose would blow. is the radiator getting hot?

Yeah it's getting hot. My stang is a 94. I just got it, I know you shouldn't go for first years but for 2300 bucks you can't go wrong.

I go to a technical institute and spent more time installing a short throw than the fan :-X. But I did rule out the thermostat, seems to be opening and closing pretty normally. That is, if I have the correct temperature, I believe it said 210?

Tomorrow I'm going to look for that switch underneath the radiator. Hopefully this is it.

I also must curse OBD1!!!

being a 94 stang your sensor is going to be in the metal pipe coming out of the front right side of the intake those metal tubes also run to your heater core that is the sensor that tells your fan when to come on and off and also tells the ecu how hot or cold the engine is running

Is that assembly sealed with a gasket or silicone?

the sensor is a white 2 wire sensor that is screwed in and has silicone on the threads on a new one

So I changed the sensor with a brand new one and all hell broke loose. Gas some how wasn't being sent to the engine, it was misfiring like crazy and to top it all off my coolant boiled over and soaked the place. Took a good hour just to get it to start.

Checked literally everything, nothing worked. Pulled out the new sensor, stuck in the old on. No problems.

My next thread will probably involve questions about carbing my 5.0...

Yeah man I figure I wont have to worry about bad wiring making everything shut off and/or explode lol.

Will It loose power and gas mileage?

It can as that sensor will tell the ecu what temp the motor is so it will control fuel and timing so if it is saying the motor is really hot it will pull timing and dump more fuel trying to cool it down

Problem found, nice. 115 bucks...damn it. Need a new fan motor. Even though the fan does turn on when you wire it to the battery, its shitting out too way too many ohms, which would explain why its melting everything. The motor itself is shorted, everything is stuck open in there. Damn it.

Getting the new fan tomorrow.
