306 Build suggestions

Hey Im nearly complete with my build heres my list of completed parts,

30 over forged aluminum 10.13;1 comp pistons

ARP rod bolts

Stock crank and rods

AFR 165 heads w/ 58cc chamber

Crane 1.7 RR

Toped off with a trick flow street intake

65mm TB

70mm mas air

Of coarse the usual question of what prime model number cam to run...?
I have my eyes set on the comp cam 274 pros/cons
I have 1.7 crane rr this cam puts me right at or below 600 lift and I have the springs shimmed just for them but if there is another cam that has been used in your simular build or an opinion let me know.

By the way this is my first SBF build, Ive got a stock 90 fox I picked up a year ago.. and I cant leave anything alone. Daily driver with a car seat

why did you pick AFR 165 over all the other choices out there. Did you get a good deal on them ? Im not talking shit on them cuz i run AFR 185. I just think the 165 are just a tad small

That's not bad, but there's a real good chance you won't be able to use those pushrods. The only way to know pushrod length is to get your engine assembled, and then measure. Someone else's engine with the same parts can still use a different length pushrod, and valvetrain geometry is very important.

The XE274HR would be a good camshaft for the combo. It should make decent power with that. Because of the smallish heads, I'd say 305-315ish to the tires, and streetable.

Looking at that again, have you calculated the compression? Is it 10.13 calculated for your engine? With a 58cc chamber, and those pistons, it could be getting up there depending on the other variables. It may make more if it has higher compression.

I've read some good threads about the cam working well with non-stroked engines plus its a 112 lsa so it should have a decent idle, yes according to the piston manufactor specs 10.13 comp on a 58cc head but I'm sure its ballpark right around there.

One way you could go is either call up summit racing or comp cams and give them all the specs on your motor and they will put it into there program that will give you the best cam for your combo I had a custom ground cam from com cams and I love it
