Fuel pump?

Can I use an aftermarket intank pump if I use a good aftermarket regulator with my Carb? I am running a intank pump right now not sure but am guessing it is stock pump was a 4 banger originally. I am looking to make 500 - 600hp in the future and want a pump that will be enough but am looking for a cheaper alternative to aero or magna fuel pumps I know you get what you pay for but there has to be more options.
