Advancing the timing past TDC runs the risk of excessive spark, which will cause back fires and sometimes knocking in the combustion chamber. Be careful with Ignition Timing because the wrong formula will permanently damage your engine.

He's talking about cam timing, not ignition timing. And stock ignition timing is 10* BEFORE TDC and advancing it means you go more degrees before TDC. To go past TDC is retarding the timing, not advancing it.

OP, you won't run into PTV issues if you advance the cam 2* if that's what you're asking.

Will it help with performance or should I just install at 0 deg.? Just figure while I'm in there if i can get more performance then I will.

I can't give you any real world experience with that personally. I just know that I've run more duration and more aggressive ramp rate cams than stock in my old 306 that had stock style flat tops and advanced them 4* with enough PTV clearance. Try corral or yellowbullet if you don't get anyone on here that can give you some empirical data on performance.

If you don't check actual timing events with a degree wheel, its kind of a guessing game anyway.
