ok I beat another 4.6 whats the deal on HP. Why switch to 46

I was wondering stock what a mustang with a 5.0 is pushing in a 93,94,95, and what the 96+ 4.6's are pushing? Also what are the newer mustangs throwing out stock? My mustang back when it was stock took a 4.6 with a full exhaust and a air intake. Why did ford go to the 4.6 over the 5.0? Advantages disatantages?

Also wondering what a camaro with a 5.0 is throwing and those newer ones.

Thanks

96 and 97 are rated at 215, and the 98 is rated at 225.

those #s sound about right. as i understand it they switched for fuel economy, to meet stricter emissions standards, and to get started with new technology. that new tech finally started to pay off around 99 and its really taken off with the 05 and up stangs. not sure what the new ones put out but i believe its around 300hp...too bad they are even heavier than yours :wink

FWIW the 99-04s aren't really that fast either. they have 260 but there powerband is small compared to the tried and true 5oh, plus they still weigh alot, relatively. with the stock 2.73s and only exhaust, CAI, and underdrives i've beaten 99-04s. with 3.73s and a couple other minor bolt-ons i've taken a 05 and up stang. of course the driver makes abit of a difference too...and typically the 05 drivers aren't that good (its hard to get them to race too )

I had a 98 gt after owning two 5.0's and i was really dissapointed with the 4.6 it felt quite a bit slower than the foxes. The parts to hop the 4.6 up will cost you a small fortune.

96-98 are the slowest produced GTs. They weigh more and put out less power. Dotn get me wrong Im not trying to bash them. They look ok. The 02 GT was the fast GT released at the time...And as for the 05+'s ( My personal Favorite ) yes they came out with a flat 300 hp. They do weigh a little bit, but theres other things you got to remeber, like mine came from the factory with 3:55 gears, 2 in exhaust, disc brakes all the way around, 235 tires, and some damn good looks. I have a 91 GT & 06 GT. they run pretty close together timewise... In my opinion if your going to get a mustang get a 89-91, 02, 05+. This is just from my expierence...[/u]

the 87 - 92 5.0 made 225 hp stock

the 93 5.0 5.0 made 205 hp stock

the 94 - 95 5.0 made 240 hp stock

the 96 - 04 4.6 SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) engine (GT) made 215 - 260 depending on the year

the 03 & 04 mach 1 and pre 03 cobra had a 4.6 DOHC (Dual Over Head Cam) makin 335 hp stock

the post 03 cobra had a supercharged 4.6 DOHC engine making 390 hp

the 05+ GT make 300 hp stock

the 07+ shelby GT 500 is making 500 hp stock

if you were drivin another car what would you rather try to beat a GT with 260 hp stock or a 390 hp cobra ya there nice cars but other people would rather try to beat the GT and its funny when you build your gt up to 500 hp and just smoke them plus some people (like my family) would rather build up a car to have more power then a car with alot of power stock
