My dad talked some sense into me lol, he said it would be great if we could do that together but both of us don't have the money to fork out to buy one, tow it home, and fix it up...he told me to save my money to spend in school and life, and of course my 95 gt lol..told me if i wanted to do something to a car, just to do it to mine.

I live here in Ms. as well. Trust me don't buy anything off of craigslist as far as cars go. I got totally screwed on my foxbody. Now I have it totally gutted, replacing floor pans, having to buy a new wiring harness, etc.

Not sure how it is up there regarding CL, but I got my GT off CL and don't feel like I got raped. It wasn't as cheap as I wanted, and it wasn't as much as the guy wanted, so it worked out for both of us. As with buying any used car, just make sure you check out properly before handing over the money, CL, eBay, used car lot, etc.

It doesnt matter if your buy the car off of craigs list, auto trader, computer, news paper, neighbor ,family member or friend.....its every ones responsabily to thurly check the car out, spend a few extra bucks and take it to a mechanic and body shop, in the end you will save money, as long as you nagoshated a fair price.

I bought a 68 camaro one time. it was just a roller. i didnt bother to look under the car to see it had rusted out floor pans. i found that there must have been an inch of bondo over 80% of the car. the quarter panel had been replaced but need to be replaced again. the best pieces on the car was the hood, front nose and trunk lid. almost every thing else needed to be fixed or replaced.(some issues i knew about and some i didnt) 2 years later i just gave that car away. didnt have the money or skills to fix that thing up, but to this day that is still one of my top 10 favorit cars. my point is i allowed my self to get ripped off.

Well, I looked at all that I thought was the right things to look at, but when I started taking the interior out and working on it, I found the wiring is all hacked up and rigged up, floor pans are rusted out, etc. I guess it is my fault, but I didn't think I needed to go that in depth in looking at it.

It's really a fine line. The best you can do is the due diligence to check out what you reasonable can check out. Sometimes you just get unlucky. It's not reasonable to strip the carpet out and remove the dash (for example) to make sure everything is kosher. You check for rust in the likely spots, frame/body damage, engine sounds, etc. Just do the best you can. If, later on, you discover this or that needs to be replaced, well that comes with the territory of buying a used car. No one is going to discover all the potential issues of a used car unless they strip it down, and no one is going to do that (nor seller allow that) in the first place. One should do the best one can, and just roll with whatever punches come along - emphasis on the doing the best one can.

With a small CAM and being an 88 model the dying issue can be directly related to the MAF system. 88 mustang GT did not have a MAF, and when you change the cam it throws off the perameters of the computer. When I bought my 88 with an E cam it did the same thing. I install a MAF system and a A9L computer "under 400$ and BOOM my car ran and did no longer die. Check into that. Also if this car frame has just surface rust, and you plan on paitning it anyway GO FOR IT. for 1100 in my opinion if it runs at all your getting a deal. You said you want a project car, and it sounds like you found it.

I do agree that no one should have to strip the car down to find every problem. some issues is just the price you pay for buying used.
