My 93 gt is running hot a little help

Well first off i jsut bought this car it is a 1993 5.0 gt and to tell you the truth i dont know jack shiz about this car.
i took it out for a little drive to day and it was running good until the temp gague just started rising to about the 250 mark so i stopped and let it cool down and turned on the heat to get back home.
and the whole way it was running around 200 210 degrese.
could u guys help and give me some ideas what it could be?
i have an after market eletric fan on it. and thats all i think it has for the cooling system.

Check the coolant level. Is the car all stock or is it modified? Is the fan turning on? If you can't find anything obvious, the next step is to go have the cooling system pressure tested.

Check the radiator cap too, something as simple as that can cause it to run hot.

Is with all "new" 13 year old cars you should do a FULL tune up and that includes flushing the cooling system. Than see if the problem is still there.

You say 250* how? Is there a REAL gauge in the car, not the stock one. Is it right? 250* is at a boiling point, did you gear it boil? Did it run different or were you just going off the gauge?

Is there a thermostat in there? What temp is it? 180* is uasually the best for a 5.0. What cooling fan is on there? If its a "black magic" or some off brand Pep-Boys one, you prob found your problem.

Don't mean to change the sub, but what's the normal temp the car should run anyways? is it 210? mine goes to 210* and stays there.

Hi guys, im new here, but saw this post, I agree with some here, like flush it, and put in a 180.
also, I think clutch fans suck, my police one broke, and never cooled worth a crap, I have the black magic, and it runs cool, even with pullies at an idle, draws alot of amps, so an alternator upgrade is recomended, but i have the stock alt.
later, and cool site.

1st I'm glad the black magic works for you. By the numbers it moves 1400 CFM and for the same time mounting and a cheeper cost I got the Lincoln VIII fan that moves 4300CFM. See the point? Both are better cooling at idle than the fan clutch.

First of all, My fan moves 2800 cfm, I bought this fan before people were really using crown vic, and whatever you have, fans.
I have friends using 03 cobra fans on fox stangs, and all kinds of other fan's, ford tauraus etc... do you see my point? All i did was get a fan when i needed one, and it works, a 1400 cfm fan would not be enough, so i agree with that.

I run a Flex-a-lite Black Magic fan and it cools my 718 horsepower engine just fine whether I'm racing, street driving or idling. I've used Black Magic fans on every single Mustang I've ever owned. They bolt right on, fit great, look great and work great. Who ever told you they are junk has never used one.

210 is normal operating temp, if u run too cold then u wouldnt produce as much power, 210 is peak performance temp.
make sure u have an adaquate amount of anit-freeze mixed with the water and the radiator cap is good, if all is well your coolant boiling point will be around 265 degrees...

Is that how much horsepower i need to pull a wheelie like that darrell?

Glad to see you like the flexalite, I have known other people that dog them too, on other stang sites.
but fact is, I live in south tx, my car has ac, and pullies, idling in traffic isnt a problem, but the temp guage climbs slowly, probaly to around halfway, nothing major, never boil's over (knock on wood) I happen to have a pep boys radiator :wink
My friend with the 03 cobra fan says he's tossing that one for one like mine, he says "it blows/sounds better, and smaller.

On my old street beater I had a Black Magic fan as well. The car was a 1991 Mustang GT with a 306, TFS heads, TFS cam, Edelbrock Victor EFI intake, underdrive pullies, A/C, and all the other bells and whistles. I drove the car from Wisconsin to California and back with no issues. We got caught in a traffic jam on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas for over an hour in 105 degree weather and the engine temp never went over 18X degrees. This car had a stock replacement water pump as well. The key is having a good radiator and making sure the plastic air deflector under the radiator support is in good shape. Some people take that piece off which can cause over heating issues at any cruising speed. That piece is engineered to scoop air and deflect it toward the radiator.
