Distributor ??

Yeah I went to start my car and it would fire but not run. Is there a certain way of dropping the actual distyributor in? I know that you have to have the number one pointed at by the rotor and the number one at tdc, but do you have to drop the distributor in a certain toothe. Also I only have an inch or so to turn the distibutor, because it hits the intake on one side and the fuel rail on teh other?

Thanks

Jon

all you have to do is get it pretty close to about 10 deg. and drop it in so that there is room th turn it. Theres no certin tooth. I put my engine at 10 deg. on the timing marks and drop it in as close to dead even on the #1 as possible its a little easier to get your dizzy in the right spot that way. then time the thing.

You have the right idea, just make sure it is close TDC on the compression stroke. Not the exhaust stroke.

The teeth on the dist and cam are angled. When you drop the dist in the rotor will actually turn a bit as the dist gets lowered into position. When the teeth first start to mesh you actually do not want the rotor pointing right at the #1 plug. You want it point to the side of it just a bit. That way when you lower the dist down in all the way the rotor will turn as the teeth engage and when the dist is fully seated the rotor should be pointed directly at #1 plug. You could be a tooth off if you did not do this correctly. If you are a tooth off it could cause you to not have enough range to adjust it because of your clearance issues with the intake and fuel rails.
