Installing longer wheel studs?

Who here has installed longer wheel studs on their fox? I have drag lites and it seems I'm 2 for 2. Everytime I put on/take off Weld drag lites, I ruin a lug nut or stud. What's the reasoning for this? I'm not cross threading or anything wrong like that, but ALWAYS damaging something. Who here has done longer studs on the front and rears with Drag Lites with open ended lugs. I believe that will relieve the problem. Not sure about the longer studs for the front rotor, I thought they were a complete assembly. Are they changeable? Rears I'm sure are nothing more that pulling the drum cover, and sliding the axle out which should be removing the diff cover and c-clips, and out they should go?

When I finally upgraded to 31 spline axles I had a local chassis guy drill and tap the axles for 5/8 studs. It makes swapping rims super easy as you don't have to hold the rim on and fumble with trying to start a lug nut, you just slide the rim on and put on a spacer and nut.

Sounds good, but I'm not going that built. I just wanted to install these 3in studs with some better shank lug nuts to keep from ruining the studs or lugs. I looked at my old repair manual that I forgot I had. It told me everything I needed to know. Going to be installing them Tuesday if time permits.

i did longer studs on my ranger that is for drag racing. i did it on the front and they did not have the right size so i had to drill the roto out to the right size. the rear they had the right size. pull the brakes off. then the rear i had to remove the cover, back the small bolt out that holds the pin in, remove the pin, push the axles in and pull the c clip. then the axle will come out. on the rear end i would install the posi stuff in the rear end oil.

are you using an impact to put on and remove the lug nuts, because that will fuck up your studs in a hurry

if you are taking the wheels on and off alot its a good idea to use anti-seize compound on them

No, wasn't using a impact wrench on the wheels. Apparently I was over tightening them though. I looked on Welds website and they say to torque at 90 ft lbs, I was giving more than that by hand. WICK22...the site also said not to use anything like anti-seize.

yeah 90 is what i take mine to. i think it is the lugs that i got are cheap. when i got them they had a big box thing they was in. i got some weld ones to install next but my old motor did not make it so i been dealing with it.

Got the studs installed, I didn't have a press handy. So I got real familiar with my bfh. Tearing the rear end open and getting the axles out was easy as can be. Beating the new studs in...not so much. I highly recommend anyone else doing this, use a press. Would have made it so much better.
