Value: 1992 Mustang LX
I am looking to pick up a second mustang but need help determining the value of it. It is a 92 LX 5 speed, 331 motor on an svo block, vortech polished blower, stage 2 trick flow heads, wild wood rear disc brakes, full suspension front and rear, built rear end, $2000 fuel system, leather interior, and a roll bar with swing out door bars.
I know some of this is vague but its the info I have and the owner is having surgery tomorrow so Im not his main priority. He claims $20,000 invested in parts plus $4,000 for the car itself. It has 94XXX on the body, 3000 on the build. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Heres a couple links to more pictures http://s744.photobucket.com/albums/x...cpZZ6QQtppZZ20 http://s744.photobucket.com/albums/x...pZZ12QQtppZZ20 Any feedback would be great, obviously im not looking for a price down to the dollar but just a general estimate would be great. If i get anymore information Ill post it here. Thanks Last edited by 19mystic96; December 14th, 2011 at 02:06 AM. |

I can give you my opinion, but that's only one opinion. My advice would be to go on eBay and search for 5-liter mustangs. "Watch" as many as you can, and see what they sell for - not only is this NOT some arbitrary opinion, but it represents the open market and should create a good baseline for you to weigh against. Of course there are more places to sell than just eBay, and of course lots of variables go into the sale price of a car, but it's a nice easy way to watch a lot of them and see who gets the most action and what goes for what. I did this for a good two months before I recently bought and it gave me really good perspective based on what I was interested in.
I can tell you that most of the cars I saw in this condition with these amounts of mods on it were going in the $7 to $12k range. It depends on a lot of stuff, most of which I think is the buyer and seller's willingness to pay/sell. Some people are desperate, others are just interested to see if they'll get a premium - if no one offers a premium, then they won't sell. YMMV. |

That's a great idea Danno, I didn't even think to watch cars on ebay. I checked my local craigslist but there are none remotely close to the one I'm interested in.
Also thank you for your input. |

20k in parts but he has a GT-40 intake, stock throttle body and a stock EGR plate? Sounds like the guy is gonna ask way too much for what the car actually is.

5500 seems a little low considering what's done to it.

Like Danno said, ebay and craigslist are the best places to gauge what the going rate is in your area.Unfortunatly 20,000 in parts without a list of whats been done, doesnt mean a whole lot.At most maybe $6000-6500

I agree, I definitely plan on getting a much better list of parts before anything else. I'm currently watching a couple similar cars on ebay and I've looked thru craigslist as well. But all the local ones are run down and higher mileage, which is why I came here for advice. I appreciate your advice philly, and I'll let you guys know more about the supposed 20k invested when I find out.

When you say it has a svo block, do you mean the boss block with the 4 bolt mains ? What supercharger is that, I can see it's a vortech but what trim is it ? And I a gree with fogged306, its funny that he's running the gt40 intake with stock tb . Don't germs wrong the tubular gt40 Intake is nice and they sell for big bucks , just think there arebetter intakes to spend that sort of money on.

Ryan, I emailed him some questions about the parts and included yours. Until he responds I don't know about the blower or the block. Would the tb need to be upgraded? Or are you guys just saying its unusual to spend good money on a intake but not on the throttle body?

If the body is straight with no rust/dings and good interior...id say 7,000...ish.
and "$2000 fuel system" !? what the heck did he do?! some things dont add up like others have said..but see it for yourself and determine how it is..idk if he did all the work himself or not so...yah.

It's weird that he has 20000 invested and didn't upgrade the tb.
Maybe he didn't think it was needed since he had the supercharger. Superchargers tend to compensate for restrictive passages, but regardless if your spending that sort of money I'd want every thing to be nice, upgraded, and free flowing. Is he counting the labor cost as part of the 20 gs he has in vested or is that just parts.

Ya I'd think anyone with a budget that allows for a $2000 fuel system would upgrade EVERYTHING. If the 20k counted labor it would be more reasonable but he built it himself so unless he's figuring his own labor into it that's just parts. So considering that his claims don't really add up. But like jhills2 said I need to see it in person.

Ya I have no idea why he wouldnt have gotten rid of the hitch.
Hypothetically this guy should be getting back to me in 3-4 days. But I'm probably just gonna let this one go. I'll let you guys know what happens tho. Also I really appreciate the feedback from everyone. |

I'd want any kind of receipts I could get. What strikes me as sketchy is he spent all of that money on heads, supercharger, blah blah blah and has a stock tb, tubular intake, and who knows what else. It'd make me question what has really been done to the car.

Ya that brings up one of the worst parts about the car. No receipts. So I'd be taking his word on thousands of dollars worth of work.
