That does look nice...ive had a bad exsperience with macco. both me and my dad had our cars painted through them.(my old 85gt and his audi) both cars started flaking paint on the center of the hood, and when it flaked off it showed bare metal ( no primer to be seen) took it back they repainted the hood, a few months later, the same thing happened.

my brother took his 66 nova to earl schib, he went out and bought some high quality white paint and droped it off to them to be used on his car,( keep in mind he striped the car down to just the body, so he wanted it panted inside and out) a week later he returns and they say that they ran out of his paint.( the out side was 100% painted and the inside was 1/4 painted) but my brother knew that he gave them enough paint to do every thing. as he was driving away he notice that the owner of that shop had the same paint color on his 280z. The owner ripped my brother off and used his paint....but what they did paint looked good..... lol

I see nothing wrong with using 3000. I use 3M Trizac 3000 grit pads wet after 1500/2000 grit on clear. It makes the buffing process so much easier and much better results.

EDIT:
Also, mark it on the wall, because this may be the one and only time I agree with Noco.

This pretty much sums it up. No doubt in my mind the paint job will hold up, but it's going to be a 10-20ft paint job. I'm also kind of iffy on how well this will work on plastic bumpers. I doubt your general enamel has the correct composition for flexible bumpers.

No shame in doing this job if you have lots of time and no money, but don't go expecting a 10/10 paint job.

I heard some real bad horror stories from maaco and earl shieb as well. i had a old honda accord back in the days, bought it off from some guy, when i bought it, the paint was not even a year old. looked great. about year and a half owning the car, the paint started chipping. i guess you get what you pay for though. there's a special going on, 300 bucks to paint your car. lol

My buddy has used the same 3k pads as well, but it's really not timesaving at all. Once you clean up again before buffing, you could have just made another couple passes with the buffer. Each to their own.
