Car sputtering. Problem?

My 94 mustang 5.0 has been sputtering on me the past month or so... The first thing I done was put a new fuel filter on. The old one had brown muddy lookin liquid come out of it, when i took it off. smh... I had just bought the car. The car is sputtering and running like it's starving for fuel or fire. Then it will all of a sudden kick in to normal power and feels like a nitrous boost. haha.. Ive ran two bottles of fuel injection cleaner in it and it didn't help. Is there any way to tell if it's the injectors or the distributor? the car has new plugs and wires as far as I can tell. The wires look brand new. Any ideas? Thanks

Yes or some thing in the lines blocked. You said that gunk came out of the fuel filter so it's possible that the gunk f up your fuel pump or is blocking some thing.
