CAM help?

I have a 306 with trick flow track heat 170cc heads, track heat intake and just about all the bolt ons my motor is out and my lifters are bad so am i going to replace them but its the perfect time to go ahead and change the cam. please dont say a tfs stage 1 thats what every one runs wih out much low end. im looking for a nice powerband with great drivability this will be a 90% street car. so it really needs to have good drivability and still pull hard. I need vaccum for A/C Full disc brakes etc. Im not sure maybe a AFM, comp, im not sure if you know of any cams with all the things listed let me know and if you have same set up dyno#s and track time would really be appreciated Thanks for any suggestions
Tyler

Tfs1 cam is a great cam.
But if you want something better, I'd say an xe266hr would be a good cam for your combo.

Jay Allen has been out of business for quite sometime now, for stealing peoples money, and being an overall douchebag. He was good in his day, but his day is done.

I'll agree that he was by no means the most pleasant person to talk to, but when you are trying to run a business and 50% of your calls are something-teen year old kids who have big eyes and small pockets you should be able to see where that gets frustrating. Still, the same principal applies. You will get more out of a custom cam setup compared to an off the shelf setup every time, because it is tailored for YOUR setup. Find a reputable cam grinder and give them a call, you won't regret it.

I agree, but if you research Jays later years, it gets much farther than that. He went off the deep end.

Lmao that thread is great. Read the whole thing a few months ago. I second the Anderson N41...,great cam for 300$. Also, keep in mind that a billet core cam from FTI is only 75$ more SHIPPED. I would do that personally. FlowTech induction- Ed Curtis.

I was glued to yellowbullet for the whole timeframe that was going on...lol.

I agree a custom is better. Obviously that's why I have a Bullet cam in mine, but as mild as his build is, the n41 would do ok.

Very true. N41 cam with stock gt40ps/explorer intake/4:10s and a little weight reduction netted 11.90s. Jay Allen ran (I believe) 11.40s with untouched gt40s and his own cam. I don't remember the rest of the combo, but his car was full weight with no gut.

He never ran that - it was a lie, like the parts and information he sold to his nutswingers.

He was a SCAMmaster, not a cammaster. He had a computer program that would calculate his camshaft dimensions, then he would send that to Comp for a "custom" grind.

Not that I'm defending jay, but a lot of cam guys do the same. Not a whole lot of custom cam places actually grind in house.

I agree with fogged

My custom cam was from AD performance but comp cams ground it

100% true. However, he didn't know as much as he led on and sold a bunch of inferior parts to unsuspecting victims, all in the name of greed. He got his results from a computer, but didn't know the TRUE reason for it, just made off like he did. From the looks of it, he had/has a narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) - look it up.

FYI - I had my dealings with him, so I don't speak from hear-say.

I read a really long thread over on corral about that guy, it was funny at the start of the thread, every one but one or two guys loved him, and were sticking up for him, but by the end of the thread you could see how big of a scam artist he was.

Since you asked on the YB, you need to go with Ed Curtis.

Forget that old "SADI" talk from Jay - just more BS, so he could make more profit. I have run both "SADI" and Billet - loved them both and couldn't tell a lick of a difference. He also liked Billet because it gave him more leverage in using a stiffer spring, because he did not understand the valvetrain. He would take Comp's recommendation, after he sent them the printout.

Also, freezy is not a bad guy to go with (he posted in your "what cam should I go with" thread.
