Installing Control Arms (rear); Having Issues

Ok, I did some research and attacked this properly; doing 1 side at a time, 1 control arm at a time. Not having the best luck as I am still on my 1st lower control arm nearly 4 hours later.

I removed the shock, the way and unbolted the LCA; now I bolted up the new one, attached it to the car first and lubed up the rear bushing for easy entry into the rear housing. My problem now is, I simply can't move the rear end FORWARD enough to get the bolt thru.

Any tips on how to move the rear end forward about 1/8"? I am using a floor jack to raise/lower it, however it's just not giving me enough room.

I also measured the new tubular LCA and the OEM LCA from center to center, both same measurements.

For reference, I am using Granatelli tubular LCA's and planning on installing my UCA's as well.

pry bar. you may be able to stick it in where the shock mounts to the rear. if you can't do it yourself, get a buddy to help you or get a cargo strap and try to ratchet it into position by hooking the strap to the tranny crossmember or something.

So did you finish? I put uppers and lowers on a couple months ago and unbolted all of the control arms at the same time and removed them. Then bolted all 4 to the body. I left the shocks connected so the axle would hang. The axle was tilted a lot towards the front of the car so I jacked up the axle right before where it connects to the driveshaft to tilt it back in the proper position. This allowed me to connect both of the lowers at the same time to the axle. Then I just jacked up the axle nice and high and the uppers slid right in place.

It took me days to figure this out because I took all of the control arms off at the same time and I had never done this before lol. But once I finally sat and thought about the procedure I just wrote, it literally took 30 minutes start to finish. Good luck man. This way I think is really easy. All you need is a jack, 2 stands, some sockets and a couple ratchets.

yep cargo strap! i also put lowering springs on at the same time. used the cargo strap to compress the front springs a little and than put two 3'' hose clamps on them. put them in the pockets and then just screwed them loose!

Yes, I finished. Once I got the ratchet straps I got all 4 control arms done in roughly an hour or so. I find it a lot easier to do one side at a time.

I am having a bitch getting my left side LCA on, it seems that the rear has shifted about 1/2" to the right so the lower mount does not line up. I have removed the quad shocks and the normal shock. Any idea on how to get it to line up again?

You can bring us the car - or like it says above, loosen a few things and use a ratchet strap to pull it into place. Just did one here today, all it took was a big 2 x 4 to persuade the rear end over and into place - made it easy

Thanks much for the offer, but I do not believe in building a car by wallet. Thanks for the info. I assumed that someone was just ripping a name off when I saw your name here. I met Andy at OMS so many years ago.

You have just got a new client, can you give me your address, customer service means everything to me. And no I do not buy cheap Chinese anything, I buy expensive Chinese! All kidding aside, if I could not find a part like this made by an American company I would go to a fab shop and have itt custom made. Coming from a off road background, I know plenty of good fab guys.
