New to forums with a project

Well this will be my second mustang. I owned a 1998 Gt until June when i sold it. I just picked up a 1994 GT roller and will be doing work on it through the winter months. My plans are to drop an engine my mechanic friend has. Its a 5.0 out of an 88 gt with 122000 miles. I got the car with everything but the engine. It has the stock t5 with a Hurst short throw, and slp lm1. I'm just wondering what kind of stuff i can do to the stock motor to get to the 300ish hp. Where should i start? heads cams intake? just looking to get a little more "go" than the stock gt. any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just start reading threads. Move on down the list. You'll get more ideas than money in your pocket, lol.

Can you estimate what the stock internals and block on the 30s are good to?

If your gonna go te cheap route. Gt40 heads a decent cam and a decent intake. Also throw in gears in the rear and she will fly.

I the stock rear end is leaking so im replacing it with an 8.8 with 4.10s. Where can you find the gt40 heads or who makes them? Ive seen alot of people running them. What kind of money would I be looking at?

Please excuse my lack of intelligence im just now starting to get into the mechanics of the engines haha theres so much to learn

There explorer heads and also came on the 93 cobra..... if you want them cheap, go to ajunk yard and pull them your self.....as far as how good they are.... there better then what you have, but good used after market aluminum heads are better.

Newbies always start with letter cams.
It's probably cause they were so popular back in their day.
Anyway, I had gt40p, cobra intake(explorer Is basically the same), trick flow stage 1 cam, and all the bolt ons. That was good for 275hp at the wheels.

Go to your local junk yard & pick up an intake off of a 5.0 Explorer, it flows better than a Cobra and can be had for $50-$100. While your there grab the heads also, they will be GT-40's or GT-40p's, take them to your local machine shop for a clean up & valve job, add the Trick Flow spring kit, a Trick Flow stage 1, Comp XE266HR, Anderson N21 would all be good cams for your mild combo!

Spend your money wisley!

For $450, almost any intake can be bought used. If not cheaper.

I bought my intake used for 375. And its almost 600 new.

Do not get that replica! It sucks!!! I had sucked so much oil up into my upper manifold because of it. It has a very small baffle that oil likes to sit on and then gets sucked up through the pvc. I wouldn't recommend it. Looks good imo, but there are deff better intakes!

anyone know anything about the ON3 performance turbo kit? they are $1500 ish i know you get what you pay for but it doesnt seem to bad. Im not sure but i believe i remember seeing something about the 88 motors having forged pistons or something not sure if its true. Also how do the stock 5.0 handle boost? id keep it low around 5-8 psi.
