lets talk cams

Alright so i have a pretty much stock 92 5.0, i want to put cam and lifters in, but Ive never really dealt with the Lift and duration on a cam before so i was wondering if any of you could help me out, I'm looking for a cam for the street/strip i was lookinng at some Comp cams on Summit, i figure i might as well do a double roller timing chain while I'm at it, so any help would be awesome... thanks
to be exact this is what i was looking at
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CC...18-2/?rtype=10

edit: if there is 50,000 threads about this then post one and i'll go there

The link you have of the cam is a flat tappet set up. Your 92 5.0 is a hydraulic roller set up. I would consider the Trick Flow stage 1 cam, Trick Flow spring kit for your stock heads, & a Ford Racing timing chain! As long as you are going that far, you may want to pick up a set of heads & intake from your local junk yard off of a 5.0 Explorer. That would give you a nice budget mild engine build!

There at least 50,000 threads, and there is a search function.

Take a look at the Anderson n21.

Stock heads? Comp cams Magnum 266HR. Low duration for torque and a little more lift than stock. Deff need valve springs with any cam you do. Keep in mind the stock springs are approaching 20 years old at the NEWEST.

ok so I'm fairly sure i have the explorer intake it's a little taller then the stock one i have, the car came with and extra intake that the PO messed up badly, which brings me to believe it has expo heads, but I'll check when it get warm again, (car sits outside for now) but thanks for the info

Easy way to check if they're gt40p heads (explorer heads) is to look right under the valve cover on the front facing section of the head and there will be 4 slash marks. Or, 4 vertical marks, rather.
