tuning
what's up guys i want to see if anybody can help me out i have a 1990 LX 5.0 that i built first time at the track after the build i ran a 12.80 @ 107.65mph qith a 1.7 60 footer and i'm still running 19 lb injectors . Now i am looking to go with at least 24 lb injectors just for the record i have a 70mm throtle body and a 76 mm mass air calibrated for the 19 lb injectors. Also the car ran that time without having a tune yet all i did was play with fuel pressure and timing. But now i realize that if a stock 1993 cobra has 24 lb injectors for the most part then i should definitly have 24's at least. But now from what i understand the correct way is really to calabrate the computer and not have to change the mass air flow calibration at all. from what ive read the mass air cal is sort of a short cut that works pretty decent but not the correct way. So if i buy the ford racing 24 lb injectors can anybody give me a little advise on how to get the car dial'd in correctly hence tuning program rather than paying someone i heard it is better to get the software and learn this way as you do more mods or change set ups you can make your tuning adjustments yourself.. Feedback Please. Thanks Jimmy.

If it were me and you were buying a brand new set of injectors, buy a bigger set than needed so you have room to grow. I just bought 47# injectors so if I go power adder in the future, I wont have to swap injectors, just the tune. Also most popular MAF's can be sent back to the manufacturer to be re-calibrated for any size injector. If it's a 76mm C&L MAF, you can re-calibrate it yourself by buying the calibration tubes they sell for cheap.

I can see that you really like going to the track, and racing your car. So hy would you try to bypass the most important thing that gives you the most power. Dialing in your timing and air curves requires more equipment then most of us have in our garage. I took mine to a tuner and went from 210RWHP to 251RWHP with nothing more then a tune. Sont pinch pennies on your tune it is the most important part of any build. welcome to the Forums.

You are correct, tuning with calibrated MAF's is a bandaid way of changing injector size. I use a quarterhorse to tune mine and I like it a lot. There's a very steep learning curve to it, but if you can handle it, the results are worth it. Do some reading on EECTuning.org • Index page for a while and see if using a tuner like a QH is for you. I would spend at least a few hours researching and reading threads over there before you commit to something like that though. You will spend about $550 for the QH, software, and wideband, and then you'll need a laptop if you don't already have one. It's worth it though, there's no better tuning device for the EEC in my opinion.

maspeth Queens. i think i listed most of the work to the car in my first post maybe except that it also has 410 gears and it has a Nitrous express cobra style plate on it . Once i get this car dialed in then i'm going to hit it with a small shot. When all is said and done i think the car will run between 12.20 to 12.40's and then with like a 60 shot should run around 11.70 or with an 80 shot the most might go 11.50 or 11.40's dont want to hurt her so small shot.

i dont know if i want to put any larger injectors maybe 30's because i dont want to be dumping more fuel than i need to and fatten the car up. And i'm not penny pinching i'm just trying to do things right and for the first time out to the track with a motor i built in my garage by myself and the first build from the block up to run a 12.80 @ 107.65 without a tune is not to shabby.

Sure I'll try and post some. Also i guarantee i will get this car to go 12.20's or 30's before i hit it with any smack. the only thing stock is the block crank and pistons, it has a nice set of aluminum heads , decent cam and intake also has a nice throttle body mass air set up plus the cold air intake long tube headers under drive pulleys electric fan fuel pressure regulator blaster coil and trick flow 1.6 rockers stud mount not pedestal and the nitrous express plate is on there with a 1" spacer which gives it the effect of longer runners for atomizing the fuel and air better . as soon as i get this thing to go 20's or 30's then i will start with a small 60 shot with that plate and a safe set up i think the car should easily go from 12.30's to 11.70 no problem. i am also set up with Sub frame connectors welded in and when i do take her to the track which is only about 2 to 3 times a year i put a set of 28 x 9 mickey Thomson full slicks and shinnies on it with the 410's she comes out hard. But I've been leaving off the e-brake which is a little difficult i have the line lock in the garage just haven't had the time to put it in definitely before spring along with the MSD 6AL2 and the spray has to get set up too before spring. Oh yeah i forgot to mention that time was with a 1.7 60 footer leaving @ 3000 rpms if i could knock that short time down to like a 1.5 as a rule of thumb every one you knock off on the 60 footer gives you 3 tenths on the big end more or less. So if i get a 1.5 60 footer in theory i should be around 12.20 i'm guessing my MPH should go from 107.65 to somewhere around 112 MPH.
