fox body purchase help - Los Angeles
Hey guys, looking to buy a fox body GT in the near future. I'm in no rush to get it so I can wait around and find a really nice one if it takes time. I plan on fixing it up a lot. I want to build the motor up and supercharge it. I was curious if any year between 88-93 would be better to work with. If not, should I just use the original block or buy a new block/forged internals to handle the supercharger.
Thanks! Corey. Also if you know of a mustang in the Los Angeles area let me know! |

There all good, somee out of state 88 mustangs may not be mass air though, so figure the cost of upgrading to a mass air in your budget. 1991-1993 can take a bigger wheel, if that even matters to you. I think in 1989 or 90 they started putting shoulder seat belts in the back seat along with drivers side air bags in 1990. This is all just little things but wanted to name a few of the differences. Also in 1993 the changed the pistons from forged to cast.
As for keeping the stock block, youll be fine as long as you have a quallity built motor with a good tune, but i wouldnt stroke it and supercharge it. Look at it this way..... you can keep your stock block, but you can only choose two out of the three i listed. ( pick your combo) #1. Stroke it #2. Add a power adder such as a turbo/supercharger #3. A nice head, cam, intake swap If you do all 3 then your asking for trouble on a stock block......

'93s are the first year of using hyperuetectic pistons instead of forged. If you're getting boosty and don't want to build the shortblock, I'd stick with '92 and earlier.
'90s are the first year for airbags, and because of it lose tilt-steering. '90-'93s have slightly improved front suspension geometry over '89 and earlier, and if you're looking at convertibles, the convertible mechanism was redesigned such that it lays flatter when down. And of course, '93 was the first year of the SVT Cobra

H/C/I and a stroker and 5 psi will put you in the danger zone if your tune isn't conservative enough. Boost pressure, or psi, is unconsumed air. Keeping the pulley the same size, the supercharger will less boost (leftover air) on a stroker because the motor takes more air in per stroke. Same thing with good flowing induction parts as heads and intake. Keep that in mind.

Well if your going to do all three and since asked if you should get an aftermarket block, I say yes, but not a production 302. Don't blow your stuff up as soon as you get started!

Worst case scenario, I gotta buy a new bottom end..
I trust my buddy who builds fox body's for a living. He said 8lbs on an s trim will work just fine.
