car wont crank

so i am close to starting the car.. actually right there...
so i turn the key on to on and lights come on as supposto.
then to start and nothing happens..
i checked for power at the little red wire with the blue stripe and there is nothing. that is the wire that bridges the two terminals together..
then i checked for poiwer at the clutch safty switch and there is no power there..
so any suggestions? trace the wire to the key switch and re run my own wire?

what red wire with blue stripes are you talking about?

make sure your start solenoid works and both wires are hooked to the starter

get a screw driver to jump the connection

The red wire with the blue stripe will only have power in the cranking position........its not hot in the run position, so youll have to check power at that wire while some one elses is cranking

i think you mean starter solenoid. check it using the battey and not the key because if its bad and sticks open and the starter is good it will try and turn the engine over and it might burn up the small wire that hooks to the starter. been there done that

Try a new igniton switch. My 89 GT did that a while ago. Turn the key, wouldn't start...would crank but not start...giggle the key on and off a few times and it would start. Could possibly be the same type of issue. IDK. YOu need to pin out that blue/red wire when KEy is in start posn. If you don't get 12v then...its NOT your solenoid. If you do get 12v, then its your solenoid/wiring.
