Another Axle ??

Car is being painted today and we will be putting it back together starting Saturday. Has the 8.8 .355 28 spline axles. Car had 140K on the clock and the PO never mentioned when the 355's we're dropped in.

This car will have 3K on her by the end of June from the 2012 power tour.

Can that 8.8 handle a 460HP NA 331 through a WC T5 with a performance clutch and aluminum driveshaft?

Car wont be drag raced more than a few times if ever. I Am dropping a ton into the motor and tranny but havent given that rear a thought and my budget is reaching its limit.

Sorry for the long post but would appreciate opinions.

You can buy 31 spline c-clip axles fairly reasonable and 31 spline Explorer trac lock's can usually be had off of ebay for less than $100. Cheap insurance, IMO.

The more lauches on sticky tires, the greater the chance of failure for both, some people do it for years, some people only a few.
What control arms do you have and are the torque boxes reinforced?

Cant remember the name of the control arms but they are tubular aftermarket. Box is in the shop and i've opened so many damn boxes I cant remember. I want to say Eibach the more I think about it.

Tourque boxes have been welded and has sub frame connectors.

Id worry about the Tranny more than your rear, if anything.

Also because this is a "family" build and the wife wants a 5 speed. I had an 81 4eye years ago with a 400M, C6, 411's and she wouldnt drive it. That car but down some serious tourqe numbers. Said it was squirelly. Pretty sure after the PT we will be switching over to a C4.

I wasn't questioning the manual part...just the T5 aspect. There's much better trannies out there.
