I'll have to price it out both ways and see what fits best for my needs. It will be behind a 9.5 deck with some spray later, but I know it won't last forever behind that either. Not ready to go auto yet, and I will continue to street it, so I think those 2 with the 600ft/lb torque ratings are going to be the only two choices I'm interested in. I don't want a 6-speed at all, just personal preference. I appreciate your input, and it makes me lean a little more towards the TKO.

ryan (ryans88gt) has a astro setup behind his 9.5 deck i believe he is running spray as well. get with him and see what he thinks of it. he told me he thinks he will blow it up on the dyno though. then he will go c4. i offered to trade him for my c4 setup.

Sean, the FFW is June 16-17 this year at Virginia MotorSport, up from a one day race last year. Would you be in the states in mid June? Thanks for giving me credit for helping you but frankly, you have now built many more T5 units than I've ever done. Therefore guys, listen to Sean's recommendations.

I will deffenitly be home in june. i am hoping to be home in the next 30 days but only time will tell. looking forward to it.

by the way using your videos i have rebuilt my c4 (freshened it up a few times too) i attempted my powerglide(it was completely blown up when i got it) but there was still an issue with it i didnt have time to figure out so i sold it to a buddy he took it to his tranny guy and fixed it. i have yet to do an AOD but i am sure it will come soon.

still wanting to see a t45,3650,t56 video i have already done a few t45's but i would still like to see one.

maybe even a honda 5 speed video. i did one about a year ago and it didnt seem too complicated just a little trickey lineing everything up when its time to put the case back together.

I'll give the T45 and 3650 some thought but a FMX will be my next one. A Ford toploader might be produced later this year but I've been asked so much about a race only C4, I believe that will be after the FMX. I've already bought some parts for the project. Be safe for now, thanks for your service.....Ken.
PS as was said, it's a tough call on the above tread but the TKO if it's in the budget might be the safe way to go.

thanks.

i agree on the race c4 video. if you would like to go through mine to get some ideas and deminsions on i am sure i could arrange something.

mine is a reverse manual valve body, pro tree trans break, fully rollerized (using turbo 400 bearings) insted of thrust washers, the direct drum has been machined and has extra clutches in it. i have a tci 6 pinion planetary in it,hardend 26 spline input, billit servo, pretty much everything that can be done to a c4 has been done to it.

i plan to switch to a t56 when i get back so ill be pulling the c4 out i am sure i could do without it for a while.

i also have a tremec 3550 sitting in the garage ive been planing on rebuilding if you want another one. that would knock out 3 transmissions in one video (3550 TKO 500 TKO 600) they are nearly identicle.

the TKO 500 is the new version of the 3550 which is just basically an upgraded input shaft (26 spline) the old 3550 had a similar input shaft as a t5 and would work with the t5 10 spline clutch disk.

to use one of the tko transmissions you need a different clutch disk, yoke for a tko spline and a bell housing. there have been people convert their t5 bell housing but i dont have personal expierence with it.

im sure i could make the stock crossmember work but ive never tried.

i dont remember on the output shaft on the 3550 i know the tko's use a larger output. i want to say yes the first gen 3550's use a t5 spline. i am sure its a google search away.

562 hp at the wheels and 10.8 with 1.4 60' time through a Astro T5 and it shifts like butter at 6800 rpms. Cost me like $2400 with every upgrade available, cluster support, shift pads, new case, a5 gear set, hardened mainshaft, other stuff astro wouldn't even tell me everything they do to make these things last. No issues with it yet.

Reason I went with it is weight, compact package, shifting smoothness, and very low rotating mass.

TKO 600 with upgraded synchros would be a good way to go to

Thanks for the insight Ryan. I'm still thinking Astro as a strong possibility and maybe a winner for me.
