3g alternator upgrade
I got my 130 amp 3g alternator today, im still waiting on the 4 gauge wire to come in the mail.
My plan was to wait until i had every thing before i installed it.......but i couldnt wait...lol. So i started cutting out the old 8 gauge wire when i found that i had two 8 gauge wires running back to the solenoid. I always thought that , off the pig tail on the alternator ( 2 black wires with orange stripe) at some point merged into a single wire running to the solenoid. But under the air cleaner housing a found that one of the wires off the pig tail, was spliced into its own (all black 8 gauge wire) running to the solenoid.... is this normal, or did some one upgrade my system at some point ? So the plan was to completly remove the old wires from the car, but i figured, ill remove one and the other ill just abandon the other, do to the fact that its intertwined in the cars harness......i dont feel like cutting open all of the protective loom. Any ways, the alternator didnt come with a stator plug so im hoping that i can pick one up at my local auto parts store. I also need to go buy a longer top bolt and nut , because the new alternator doesnt have the threaded hole. Does any one know what the differences in power out put is between the 2g and the 3g at idle ?

Aw... thats cool, i guess some knew way back then, the weaknesses of the stock charging system and fire hazards of it,....
Ive owned this car since 1998 or 1999, so this had to have been done a long time ago

Hey do any auto parts stores carry the stator plug, for the 3g. I went to oriellys about an hour ago, and they didnt have it.... i ran out of time, so i couldnt check any more stores to night. But when i went on line i couldnt find it at any of them.... not sure if im calling it by the right name. I know i can get it on ebay or latemodelresto, but id hate to wait for it to get here,

I doubt it, but that's just my guess. Are there local boneyards there in SD? Car-part.com will give you the closest distance of the parts that are available. If you go that route, I would just search for the alt, and then call the places that have them (which should be about any place) and see if they will cut one off a harness for you.

Glad to see you figured it out. Would of liked to help but I purchased the 1 wire kit. We just had to hook up the output cable.
