Timing issue

I accidentally tried to time my car with the gray chip installed that shows the computer the timing,it's located on a plugin right by the distributor,do you know what I'm talking about?i was just wondering of this did any harm to my motor,do I just need to take the chip out and retime it and everything will be okay?

No harm done. You actually just retarded it from where it should be.

You don't need a timing wrench. Hell, you can do it with a regular wrench or a ratchet, extension, and swivel.

14 normally. Are you sure your balancer hasn't spun on the rubber at all?

Nice mine idles right below 1000 but sometimes it stays at 1200 and won't go down...should I be worried?no signs of pinging at all.

Factory target idle is 672 RPM. Stock tachs are off so you can't really go by them, but if you have an aftermarket tach and are idling at above 1k, you've got an issue. Could be something as simple as needing the base idle reset, or could be a vac leak, or too much timing.

I don't have an aftermarket, but whenever I time it,it adjusts the idle too...pinging is the only real thing to be worried about right?ill keep you guys posted in case I need to troubleshoot

That high idle worries me but I'm holding to the fact that there's no pinging and that the stock tach isn't accurate..

Advancing the timing will increase your idle. If you've got no pinging, you're not doing any harm. Try resetting your base idle and see how that goes. If you don't know how, there's a sticky at the top of this forum with a link to the procedure.
