BEST AND CHEAPEST 4 LUG FOXBODY BRAKE UPGRADE???

Ok, I know its been done many times over and over but is the Lincoln Mark 7 calipers with stainless lines and hawk pads a huge upgrade to the standard 86-93 mustang v8??

And is it necessary to ugrade the master cylinder and booster??

Are the mark 7 and "SVO" caliper/master clylinder/booster the same??

I will be going to the local autoparts store to buy whats necessary...I will keep the four lug setup and the rear drums so what would be the cheapest way to do this and have some real braking power, Thanks...

Cheapest way to get better brakes:

Good shoes and pads (porterfields, hawks, etc.)
SS lines
Flush the existing fluid and replace with a DOT 4 or 5.1 fluid.

The issue with the stock brakes isn't really one of stopping power, it's heat resistance. Even with crappy Autozone $16 pads I can lock up race tires at autocross speeds, the problem comes in when I try to do a track day and do repeated hauls down from triple-digits. THAT's where you need big brakes.

Keep in mind that if you're able to lock up your tires presently, you need to upgrade your rubber before upgraded brakes will have any effect on your stopping distance.

I can not lock up the tires at the moment, I have had close calls thats why im trying to get better stopping power. Is it normal when you stab the brake pedal to here a swoosh sound from the booster? I beleive its not fading but it does make the swoosh sound when I press on it fast...

You shouldn't hear swooshing from the booster... yours might be bad, it's not entirely uncommon for them to start leaking and that would certainly explain your weak brakes.

Let me assure you that the tires are plenty good. I can stand on the the brake pedal and there is no locking up of the tires...

I got "race" pads and slotted front rotors and made a world of difference....
(plus my car is like 500lb's lighter then when I first got it...)

now to upgrade the fluids to modern junk

What kind of tires are you running up front?

People will frown upon them but I have nexen tires, they grip pretty good around a turn and work great in the rain. I have had nittos and bfg's and they seem to be at par with them.

Im pretty sure it lies in the old fluid thats in there and my booster going bad. Im thinking of going wth the ss lines front and rears, steel sleeves and matching front and rear pad compound. I think that would be a good improvement over stock? and the cheapest???

If you can't lock up those Nexens, there's definitely a problem with your brakes. With stock '94 V6 calipers/rotors and the cheapest pads autozone sells, I can lock up RA1s and Star Specs on dry pavement.

Absolute first things first, flush your brake system and get new fluid in there. Even if you just stick with DOT3. That should cost you maybe $10 and some time. If that doesn't get your braking improved, you probably have a bad booster. Either way, get that sorted out before you start modifying things.

If I were you , look into getting some good rotors & pads first.
I just had work done on my brake system [ new pads, rear brake shoes ] & fresh fluid.
My mechanic told me that on the next brake job , it would be good to replace & upgrade my rotors .
I would have done it then ,but money was tight.
