Fresh 306 combo for my 82 Capri

I've decided to build a fresh 306 for my 82 Cari RS. I've built a couple 347's and a 331 in the past, I've decided to try a nice 306 this time. So far I've picked up a used rotating ass. in nice condition that consists of stock HO crank & rods(rods have been resized w/ ARP bolts) ROSS flat tops w/ TW vavle releifs, all balanced to 50oz, Anderson N41 cam, I've got a new set of TW 170's at Fox Lake for their stage 1 port/vavle job & milled to 58cc, RPM air gap intake, 650 HP Quick Fuel carb, full MSD ignition, BBK 1 3/4" long tubes & full exhaust, RAM dual friction clutch, fresh 89 T5, 8.8 w/4.10s. The car already has full length weld in subframes, Hotchkiss rear control arms, air bag in the RR, front sway bar removed, etc. I'd like to keep it a nice driver and get as far into the 11's as possible. Any comments/feedback?

Pictures of car before build begins, please...
How about converting it over to fuel injection, that would be an awesome build thread

Why not go with the N51? Do you still want good driveability? That's about the only thing I'd change on that setup...And I'd switch over to EFI while I was at it, but that's just me Since you're staying carb, why not grab a victor jr. intake? You can get em used near me for 100-125$. That's a steal in my eyes. Plus it's an improvement over the air gap.

When will this be done by? I wanna see if the 302 I'm putting together will be any faster...Wanna make a bet? I'm using the stock bottom end with new rings ARP rod bolts and the rest is stock. Using a 20* head though. Good luck on your build

My origanal plan was to EFI it and add a Novi 1000 or Vortech S-trim. I'm going to stick with the carb for now, because I like the orignal under hood look(plus it makes people wonder when the car is running fairly qiuck). Down the road after I finish a couple other projects it might get EFI. BTW the car weighs 3100 with me in it!

It won't be done until June or July. Dropping the block off tommorrow for machine work. I just got a call from Ron at Fox Lake, he is shipping my heads out today. I have a Vic Jr. waiting in the wings. I want to see how it runs with the air gap then maybe switch to Vic Jr. I'll be driving this alot, so I want to keep it kind of mild. I've also got a N61 laying around, I might do a cam & intake swap to see if it improves!

I was going to suggest using the N61, but you're not really spinning it that high, right? N61 is more for the 6800-7200rpm shift points...N51 would be good. Try out the 41 and see how it goes. Then swap to another stick along with the victor jr and see what it gains.

My build will be finished around the same time! Let's see who has the faster small cubes, stock bottom end (for the most part) car! I will also weigh about the same...Maybe 200 pounds lighter. Same exhaust, gear and tranmission too

Is that the oiginal hatch glass, cuz i thought the capri had the big ungly bubble glass ?

I know your not going to do this, but i love when there converted over to look like a mustang, just leaving the squared off fenders, with the 87-93 quarter glass with either the 85-86 front nose and tail lights or 87-93 front nose and lx tail lights

82 was the last year of the Mustang hatch. 83-86 had the bubble hatch, which I'm not a fan of. I just saw a notch roller the other day that had Capri quarters & front fenders with 87^ front nose, it looked pretty cool. I'm all about the OE look, so mine's staying as is.

I was just on the Anderson website and they list the N41 for 2600-6200 rpm and the N61 2500-6500. The specs are not that far apart N41=222/232 512/512, the N61 is 228/236 544/568 both with 1.6 rockers. I've got 1.7s for the N41 so lift will be 544/544. I'm going to stick with my orignal plan and go from there. Only problem for me is the closest 1/4 mile track is 300 miles away!

Nice build. I like it. With the air gap, I think the 41 is a great match.

You have an E.T goal for it? I can see 11.50s or a little faster with tuning and a good driver

11.50 should be an acheivable goal, kinda what I had in the back of my head. I've been banging gears with stick cars since the 70's, so I'm not too bad at it. Probably gona ditch the AC stuff when I pull the motor that's in there now, to try and save a little weight.

Right now it's got a 114,000 mile 89 HO short block with Comp XE266HR cam, out of the box Twisted Wedge 170's, RPM air gap, 650 Quick Fuel, 89 T5, 8.8 w/3.73's. That old high milage combo actually rips pretty good. Problem with the video is I live in ND, so we've got some snow right now!

It looks like you really like the twisted wedge heads.
I wanna try them out.
Good luck with the build. I wanna see how it turns out
