Tire size VS suspension ?

I have an 89 GT that I am about ti buy tires and wheels for. I like the staggered look but also dont want rubbing issues.

Front suspension is stock other than Eibach lowering springs and Koni adjustables and all new poly bushings and a larger eibach sway bar and will be stayong with stock rotor size just upgrading the rotor and pads.

In the rear I am replacing the upper and lower control arms, also eibach springs and sway bar and koni quad shock set up staying with the rear drum set up for now. I am looking at the 17" Gt 500 wheels and want a wide reliable stance.

Car wont be auto crossed or drag raced but is something I want to perform as well as look cool.

Can I stagger the front and rear without rubbing with the set up above?

With new the uppers and lowers in the rear, you won't need to use the quad shocks. Those were a band aid for the crappy stamped rear arms. Rubbing will depend on your backspacing and tire size. To each his own but you are spending a lot of money on suspension for driving around on the street.

So I can ditch the quads and get a wider tire back there?

As for dropping cash into the project you are right but while things are apart it makes sense to upgrade as projects never end up being exactly what you plan. At least in my case.

They were a band aid but they do their job pretty well. it wont hurt to leave them on. from what i have read though, if you dont go above about 9" wide in the back you wont rub the quad shocks. also i have heard if you invert the quad shock (the shock tube towards the axle, see pic), you can clear 10" wheels. but if you go that wide beware of possible rubbing on the fender if your car is lowered
