couple issues with stang, sputtering and shaking please help!!

well, a guy at work at a 1993 GT he's willing to sell me, it has 63k original miles. he said theres just a couple of issues with it. first off, when the engine is cold and he's driving it sputters and hesitates a bit but after the engine warms up it stops. we think it might be the air intake might be fouled and i suggested to take off the air intake and run it with just the TB open (for a short distance) and see if that clears up the issue. The second issue is that in 4th gear around 40mph the entire car starts to shake, after it passes 40mph the shaking stops... idk whats wrong with it, but i think it could be motor and transmission mounts. He also said the transmission is new, about 2 years old. It has headers and full exhaust and thats about it. the front bumper has a chunk that is missing from hitting a racoon.lol. the bumper is not a factor as i can pick one up relatively cheap. any thoughts on what might be causing these problems? thank you for any help.

ps. i'm not all that knowledgeable with these fox 5.0's, i had a 95 and most of the work was already done to it when i baught it. the car i currently own is in my sig. thank you again!

If you remove the air intake and run open TB, the car won't run right. Air needs to flow through the MAF. If you suspect the filter is dirty, pull it and take a look. You can also pull the MAF and look at the element. If it looks like it has dirt or a film on it, get some MAF cleaner and spray it down. Also check for codes and see what you come up with. Here is a very good write-up on how to check for codes in a fox. Also pull some plugs and take a look at them, and check the wires.

Is this an auto or a 5sp? Does the shaking only in 4th gear? Have you tried 3rd gear at 40? Neutral at 40?

the car is a 5spd, all i got from the guy was that in 4th gear around 40mph it shakes. he says in neutral he revs the engine up and theres no shaking... so i'm not sure.

If the car only has 63,000 original miles....... WHY Does it have a new transmission ? That seems wired to me.

yea, i know, it was weird to me too... i'm not sure. didn't think to ask him that.lol. but he would sell it to me cheap and i'm just concerned about the issues mentioned above... other than that, the paint and bumper are the only other things that are wrong with it and i think it would be a nice car to get cheap.

i don't have any pics yet. front bumper is screwed, he hit a racoon so theres a chunk missing, and then the above issues, so i'm a bit scared about it... paint is a bit faded, but paint doesn't make the car run good or make it faster.

She hasnt been dyno yet, so i have no clue what hp is. Im only on my 3rd tank of gas, so she hasnt been out to much, my rr are a little nosie, if i have time ill try and ajust them this month some time, i have a wife and 2 year old son, so it doesnt leave to much time to work on the car.

My plan is to supercharge it with my tax return, if there is enough money coming back, then ill have her dyno tuned, i didnt want to pay a shop to tune it two different times, so im waiting till is all done.

Trust me when your standing right next to her, shes not that sexy, but thanks
