Suggest a cam for me!

Hey guys, figured I'd make a thread to get more viewers. I'm looking to buy a new hydraulic roller cam, and need some suggestions based on my setup. I'm not looking to change heads or intake, so please don't suggest that. Here's a quick overview of what I'm running:
306, flattop pistons, stock rods and crank.
75mm Tb, 90mm MAF, gt40 intake w/ported lower
47lb injectors (plan to blower next year)
Windsor Jr cast heads 57cc, 1.6 RR's
Long tube headers, no cats, 373 gears
I'll also have it custom tuned.
Shift points 6k-6.2k, 50% street 50% track time

I currently have the x303, but know I can do better. Ive only been suggested the N-41 so far. It's hard to pick out one that will work with my head/intake package.

Im not a cam guy, so i cant really help, but it seems that both horsepowerjunki and 69 fastback agree on the same cam, so since they have built more engines then us, id just go with there suggestion, or get a custom cam, but make sure that what ever cam you pic, that you get the recomened valve springs to go with it

Off the shelf cams are just marketing ploys. If you want a cam for your car that will actually work for your combo you'll have to give someone who knows what they are doing a call and have them grind you a custom cam. Sure, there is most likely an ots cam that will work good but how does one know what cam that may be. What are windsor jr's, 180 cc? If you just randomly pick something you may wind up with a terrible powerband, bad driveability, funky idle etc. Really for that setup youre better off just keeping the stock cam in my opinion.

I think the Comp xe270-114 would be a good cam for you, now go buy it because I recommended it.

I think the N41 would be an excellent choice. That's what is going into my new 306 build. I am currently running the Comp XE266HR, and that cam works awsome. But like already stated, you may want to check into Ed Curtis @ FTI for a custom cam. They are only $25 over the cost of a new Anderson cam, so if you're gona buy new that may be the way to go!

I'm not looking to "Buy what you recommend". My goal of this thread is to open my eyes a little about what may have worked for others with a similar combo, or what suggestions arise so I can go check them out and compare one opinion to another. And yes I'm waiting for a custom cam quote from Comp cams, but will change my cam in a year or so to go blower. So if I can get a similar "off the shelf" cam to the custom grind, I will in Lou of saving cash. It also helps me bounce ideas off other minds, in order for me to not to run into problems someone else may have. Nothing wrong with that.

So back on the lighter side of things,
x303 (current cam) 224/224 Duration .542 lift. I have roughly .115 PTV clearance with this setup.
N-41......222/232 .512/.512 - Looks like I may not flow as much on the intake side, but exhaust would improve
N-51HR...226/234 .520/.528 - Possibly flow better int/Exh
XE274HR... 224/232 .555/.565 - Might be getting too close with PTV clearance @ exhaust?

I am un-aware of any other cams that I should possibly look into, Nor am I aware of their ramp rates. I'm not a cam-wizard, thats why I'm asking BEFORE I slap something in. I also sent an e-mail to Ed Curtis, But I am unable to provide all the engine specs his paperwork asks for. So I'm not sure if he'll be able to come up with something for me or not.

Actually the n41 and n51 seem like good choices. The xe274hr is an awesome cam, but might too close on the exhaust side. I believe on the exhaust side .110 clearance is whats recommended for those longer duration cams on the exhaust side.

I think the 274h is to much for his combo.

I would get a custom for your setup...Your heads don't really like that much lift but you could use about 226/228 duration. Something like .540/.550 lift would be good. Just post up whatever you don't know on the build sheet and we'll help you out.

So I've ruled out the 274H, will be way too big after more research, I've got e-mails out to AFM asking which cam they suggest out of their line-up, Ed Curtis for a potential custom grind, and comp cams for their recommendation for an "off the shelf" cam along with a custom grind. Still waiting on words from them

My only drawback to custom, is that I'll have to change cams next winter when I go bigger heads and intake

I've had a few e-mails back and forth with a comp cams tech about cam specs. But so far I've only heard from AFM, they recommended the N41 due to my intake and rear end. I'll most likely wait until mid week to make my decision. Hopefully Ed or comp cams will get back to me with some options

I appreciated your opinion, it's just hard to look at my current cam's specs and then look at a cam with smaller numbers, to expect better performance

So after talking with comp cams, I've realized they dont have any decent cams that will suit my build Unless I switch to 1.7 rockers. So I'm leaning towards the AFM N-41, in hope that it will out-perform my FR x303 cam. But heres what I'll be doing:
* N-41 cam
* 0.008 Thinner head gasket
* Have my heads reconditioned, valve seats cut, heads milled flat
* Springs measured in hope to re-use

If the cam performs roughly the same, at least I'll have a little more compression
